Dragon News
Findley Elementary School
October 28, 2022
Message from the Principal
Greetings Findley Community,
Dragon Dash day was so fun! The excitement on kids' and families' faces was contagious, and so incredible to see after a two-year hiatus. A big thank you goes out to the Dragon Dash team who put together such a fun fundraising event for our community. To all those who volunteered to help and came to support, thank you, too! Findley is lucky to have such an amazing school community.
In the last edition of the Dragon News I mentioned that we are looking to solicit your feedback on a cultural event for our community for planning purposes. The form is complete as is ready for your responses and feedback. If you'd like to share your thoughts with us, here is the form: Multicultural Night Feedback Form. Additionally, I am continuing to collect names of folks who are interested in participating in our Family Input Panels. If you interested in participating in a future panel, please sign-up here: Family Input Panels.
I hope to see you all tonight at the Fall Festival. It's one of my favorite Findley traditions. I am so grateful for our team of volunteers who are working on making this event so fun for our families. Thank you Fall Festival Team!
With Gratitude,
Sherry Marsh, Ed.D.
Principal
New Information
Car Pick-Up Lower Parking Lot
With the onset of cold, rainy weather our lower lot is getting increasingly more crowded and more difficult to navigate safely, whether walking or in a car. For a safer and more efficient experience for all, please help us by adhering to a few procedures and protocols:
- Park in designated spots only, do not use the grassy areas on the shoulders of the entry way. You may have noticed we have added No Parking Signs to help our community remember.
- If you are parking and walking, cross at designated cross walk. Students should not cross the parking alone.
- If you are planning to park, plan to arrive prior to dismissal. If people arrive and are trying to park as people are trying to leave, it causes unnecessary traffic jams. Remaining in the car pick up line and having staff load students is the most efficient and least stressful option for our families who arrive during and after dismissal.
- Turn right out of the parking lot, failing to do this back-ups the lot for everyone
- Move ahead when car the in front of you moves ahead, load kids at the end of the lot, past staff at the 2nd cross walk
Helping us by following these expectations can help keep us all safe during dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation.

Lower Parking Lot Arrival
Please help us keep car drop off a smooth and safe process by remembering these few expectations:
- Please pull as far forward as you can before allowing your child to get out of the car. This helps with traffic flow.
- If your child(ren) can't exit your car on the right side, please park and have them use the crosswalk. Exiting on the left side is dangerous as cars are passing on that side.
- Please follow the guidance of Mrs. Hargrave and Mrs. Cole as they direct traffic. Their goal is to keep traffic flowing and everyone safe.
- Please try not to stop in the crosswalk at any time.
Thank you so much!

2021-22 school profile
A link to our 2021-22 school profile will be posted by October 20 on our school webpage under About Us>School Profile>Oregon Report Card. The 2021-22 district profile is posted on the district report card webpage.
State report cards began when the 1999 Oregon Legislature passed a law requiring every public school and district to receive a report from the Oregon Department of Education about how they are performing overall. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), signed by President Obama on December 10, 2015, replaces the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act and affords states greater flexibility. ESSA encourages schools and educators to innovate and create systems that address local needs. As a part of this work, the Oregon Department of Education redesigned the School and District report cards to engage and inform families about their school’s approach to learning, academic and extracurricular offerings, and student performance. Reports cards also serve as an important tool for continuous improvement planning by local and state policymakers, in conjunction with the communities they serve.
The 2021-22 school and district profiles include all available data not impacted by the state’s response to the COVID-19. As part of the federal response to COVID-19, all students in our school were eligible for free school meals last year. As a result, our Free/ Reduced Price Lunch percentage is reported as >95%.
At Findley WE are committed to using this information to help tailor our school improvement plans and academic programs to meet the needs of every student. You’ll find our current school improvement plan here: https://findley.beaverton.k12.or.us/about-us/school-learning-plan. During the year I will communicate with you frequently about student achievement and programs in place at our school to foster student learning and success.
If you have questions about our report card or would like a print copy, please contact me. You may also have suggestions for improvements. Please share them! Thank you!
