Student Celebrations
From Anne Muessel: An anonymous student donated a lamb for Zoe S. (she LOVES sheep). She was so excited to pick up her mail from Jackie and even more excited when she saw what it was. Definitely a celebration all around!!
Hannah, Mira, Abigail, and Thomas meet with SCS students to share learning about leadership. Thank you to Laura Davenport for making the connection possible!
Nisha and Mr. Brownell work on songs from Newsies...and they sound great!
From Heidi Beaudry: A fun W3 on 9/14 working on Painting Projects!!
From Genevieve Smith: Students in French 1 building ¨better than La Tour Eiffel¨ towers with their folders prior to their first assessment!
From Daniel Lyons: Be sure to check out the Henry Eaton Radio Hour this and every Sunday night on 99.3 FM. As some may know, Henry kicks around during the week and collects song requests, and occasional shout outs from and to peers and staff from our community, and then airs them the following Sunday.
How to Listen: Log on right here and click Play or Tune your radio to 99.3FM
When to Listen: Every Sunday Night at 6:00PM
Got a Shout Out to someone in your life who deserves some recognition for the awesome things they do?: Email HenryEaton@cvsdvt.org or djlyons@cvsdvt.org.
Somer can't be replaced...or can he??? Thankfully he started an internship program to train future Athletic Trainers! Logan, you're up!
Chittenden Humanities students were introduced to Harkness teamwork concepts through puzzles! We (and the student observers) were very impressed with the soft skills and collaboration the groups exemplified!
Graciela and Elisabeth welcomed our parents for CVU @ A Glance.
Faculty/Staff Celebrations
I didn't catch your name, but to the parent who dropped off the wonderful chocolate, we took a faculty vote: you are officially a new CVU Staff member. Thank you!
Students, as a principal, I cannot condone the many violations of school safety protocols pictured here; however, I can enthusiastically support the visual of taking care of one another!
Congratulations to Dave Trevithick for being named the 2022 Non-certified Volunteer of the Year by Vermont Fish & Wildlife for his work supporting students in hunter safety and conservation ethics.
Russ is rocking some sweet CVU-wear today!
Community Celebrations/Notes
ParentIN CVSD is working with our district to better understand the perspectives and needs of caregivers. Your honest answers are appreciated and are completely anonymous and will not be used to identify individual respondents in any way. Results help us evaluate current programs and plan new ways to support youth and families in our area. If you have questions about this survey, reach out to Amy Sayre at asayre@cvsdvt.org. At the end of the survey is a link to be entered in a raffle for a chance to win one of three $50 gift cards to a grocery store of your choice! The contact information you provide for the raffle is kept separate from the survey response and cannot be tied to your survey answers. Check Out Our Upcoming Programs!!
On October 5th we'll host a convenient, virtual event that is a collaboration between ParentIN and UMatter. Kathleen Kilbourne of the Center for Health and Learning will help us identify risk and protective factors connected to supporting youth mental health and will share ways to strengthen wellbeing and reduce suicide risk. Save 7:00-8:00pm for Kathleen's presentation and 8:00-8:30pm if you want to stay for questions. This event is free and open to residents in the CVSD and Burlington school districts. No registration required. Save this zoom link to join at 7:00 on 10/5: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89721209081
You told us you wanted to be better informed on social media’s impact on youth. On November 16th, we are bringing back an amazing speaker, Erin Walsh of the Spark and Stitch Institute, for a virtual presentation from 7-8:30pm on Teens, Social Media & Mental Health and how we can help the young people in our lives navigate the digital world. This will not be recorded so mark your calendar now! Erin Walsh and the Spark and Stitch Institute that she runs with her father Dr. David Walsh is an amazing wealth of information and support. We will link to them a lot in our ParentIN communications - we encourage you to check them out online.
Help your Neighbors with Food Insecurity
This summer Vermont households with school aged children received an EBT card from the Vermont Department of Children and Families. If you do not plan to use your EBT card, please do not throw it out. If you go online and register the card, you can use it to buy groceries for your local food shelf. All food shelves in our community have seen an increase in the number of participants accessing the food shelves. This article from the Burlington Free Press explains more details about the EBT cards sent out in July.
Please consider being thoughtful about donations to your local food shelf- see below for details about what these shelves need now.
