A Note from Mrs. Allison
Greetings Blackhawk Families,
I am very honored to have the opportunity to serve as the principal of such a wonderful school and I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence that has been established in this school community. I know that NBES is a wonderful school and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to return to my roots for the next phase of my career.
I began my career in education as a classroom teacher at North Buncombe Elementary before moving to Haw Creek and Hominy Valley Elementary schools as Assistant Principal. Years later I returned to the North Buncombe District for my first principalship at Barnardsville Elementary. I spent five years as principal at Barnardsville Elementary and seven years as principal at Weaverville Elementary before circling back home to North Buncombe Elementary School! I consider myself a lifelong learner and I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Mars Hill University and a Masters Degree in School Administration (MSA) from Western Carolina University.
On a personal note, I've been married to my husband, Shane, for 23 years. He worked for 12 years at NBMS as PE teacher, Athletic Director and Boys Basketball coach. Now he is the Varsity Boys Basketball coach at Madison High. We have two sons, who will be entering ninth grade and sixth grade.
At NBES, we have an outstanding staff, wonderful students and supportive parents! Our staff is committed to the success of our students and they work diligently to provide quality and engaging instruction. Our mission is, 'Growing, Learning, Succeeding' and each day we practice our Blackhawk Basics of 'Being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible'.

Free and Reduced Lunch Program

This important program ensures all of our students have access to healthy lunches during the school day without accruing large cafeteria balances. This program is confidential and registration is easy! This year, children who qualify for this program will not be responsible for any of the cost of the lunch.
This year, universal free lunch is no longer available as we continue with COVID recovery.
Paper applications will be given out on the first day of school.
Please take a few minutes to fill out a free and reduced meal application today, even if you aren’t sure if you will qualify. If you have questions or need assistance please call 828-255-5927.
Please note that all schools will still serve breakfast to students at no cost next year!
Want to know your child's class placement? Check this out!
Kindergarten teachers will mail postcards on August 19th with your child's class assignment and which day your child is scheduled to attend (August 29 or August 30). Remember that Kindergarten has a staggered start - half of our Kindergarten students come on August 29 and half come on August 30.
For Students in Grades 1-4:
Parents of students in grades 1-4 will be able to check the Parent Portal the week of August 22nd to see class teacher assignment. The portal will open on Monday, August 22nd (See directions above regarding how to sign up). We will also have tables set up outside the school at Meet Your Teacher with class lists.
At this time, no class lists have been shared with parents.
