Kindergarten: ELA - Students will be finishing up their weather narratives and sending home videos of the students sharing their story. They will celebrate Dr. Seuss and Read Across America with lots of fun activities and will complete their monthly Istation assessment.
Math: Students are wrapping up the chapter on Numbers to 20.
Skills Block: Students will work on/review CVC words and short vowels
High frequency words: at, has, is, it, was, his, for , or, by, by, are, with, and will.
Students are looking forward to starting their next module on Trees Are Alive!
First Grade: 1st Grade will be finishing their narrative poems and paintings about "What the sun sees" to complete their Sun, Moon and Stars module and then will dive into Module 3. In this module, students build their literacy skills as they engage in an in-depth study of birds’ bodies. The module focuses on big ideas derived from the Science Standards: Animals have physical features that help them survive; and animals behave in ways that help them survive.
Second Grade: Second grade is finishing up their module 2 on paleontology. Students have loved studying fossils, dinosaurs and famous paleontologists. Students will wrap up their learning by writing a narrative from the perspective of a paleontologist discovering a fossil for the first time. Students worked on peer editing and revising with their writing partners.1st Grade will be finishing their narrative poems and paintings about "What the sun sees" to complete their Sun, Moon and Stars module and then will dive into Module 3. Fifth Grade:
Math In math we will look at the order of operations, and how it can be applied to real-life scenarios.
English Language Arts/Science
In both English Language Arts and science we will be reading and learning about biodiversity in the rainforest. Our science portion is filled with science experiments and activities.
Social Studies
Students will examine the causes of the Civil War. This unit is filled with hands-on learning experiences as we look at the challenges our nation faced during this time.
Mrs. Lawson's Sixth Grade Math: Mrs. Lawson's 6th grade math is beginning a project to write a book about fractions. Students have chosen jobs they feel they could be considered an expert consultant on: writing, putting ideas into words, art and graphics, layout and design, research, and project management. They will be beginning this project on March 1 with an anticipated completion date of March 25. The book will be written for a 5th grade audience and published upon completion as a contribution to the HCC Library.
Music: K-2 is continuing to learn and work on singing together and alone, differentiating beat and rhythm, and learning the note names on the staff.
3rd grade has begun working on the piano and learning note names!
4th grade is continuing to work on the piano and has been improvising pentatonic melodies.
5-8 all have been assigned a melody composition assignment, which will be presented this week.
