A note about i-Ready
Pursuant to our Formative Assessment Grant, TCSC is obligated to provide a diagnostic assessment throughout the year to monitor student growth, inform instructional decisions, and provide support to students and their families regarding student achievement in math and English/Language Arts. This year, i-Ready will replace NWEA as that diagnostic assessment.
The change in diagnostic assessment was made with several factors in mind. First, both NWEA and i-Ready are nationally normed tests, which means we can compare results to others across the state and country. They are also both adaptive, which means that the level of question changes based on student performance. However, what separates i-Ready from NWEA are: the response mechanisms (which are more varied and closer aligned to what students will see on ILEARN), the user-friendly interface (for students, teachers, and families), the easy to read and interpret scores (which allow all stakeholders to join in on the conversation), and the intervention resources tied to each individual student’s achievement (personalized learning pathways are automatically tailored to students’ strengths and areas for growth).
This is not an assessment that students need to study for. We ask that parents remind their child to charge their iPad and a full night of sleep before each day of testing. The i-Ready Diagnostic Assessment will be completed in school. The assessment will require headphones for each student to listen to individualized video testing directions and read-aloud questions as needed.
To learn more about i-Ready, including what the diagnostic does, how to read the results, and how to help your child, please visit the i-Ready Family Center. This website will provide you both the information and the resources you need to support your child’s academic growth.

NOTES FROM PARENTS
HOMEWORK
- Kindergarten: 10 minutes per night
- Grades 1-2: 20 minutes per night
- Grades 3-5: 30 minutes per night
These minutes are the maximum your child should have per night. If you are noticing that your child is spending more than this number on a consistent basis, please make your child's teacher aware. Open communication between home and school is a key component in working together for student success.
