September 5 - 11, 2022
Happy Labor Day Weekend
I hope you enjoyed the extended weekend. It has been a whirlwind start to the school year and a 3-day weekend is always welcome! Speaking of days off, please be aware of the new district calendar. Here are the highlights to the changes. We will continue to communicate these days as they approach.
- December 19, 20 and March 17 are student non-contact days.
- October 27, February 2, and May 4 are two-hour late start days. On these days, Kendallvue will start at 9:55am.
Our camping trips the last few days were a great success! The kids did a great job engaging in the learning and just soaking in the great outdoors. I thought about our trips quite a bit before we left and I asked myself, "why do we camp?" It became very clear to me as we arrived at Cal-Wood there are multiple reasons why we do this valuable activity. We want our students to see their value and worth as humans beyond the school setting. Students engage with each other differently outside of school. I saw so many students supporting and encouraging each other, it was inspiring. When faced with challenges, they persevered. They came together and accomplished tasks. We camp to create stronger bonds between and among our students to create a strong team of people that take care of each other through good and bad times.
These last two days will be a launching point for a positive school year. We will continue this endeavor with student leadership opportunities, creative and authentic learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom, and engaging after-school activities. We will continue to promote the idea of taking care of each other by providing positive social-emotional learning for our students. Examples include restorative practices, community circles in the classrooms to promote teamwork and valuing each student's unique contributions. Our extraordinary student experiences are only just beginning.
Finally, I know the news of consolidation has brought about many questions. One of the reasons I am so proud to be your principal is the caring and energy of this community. I am convinced this characteristic will enable us to unite with our new neighbors and make our school even stronger. Please read through the district information regarding the next few months before the board's final decision in November. There will be opportunities for families to share their thoughts and questions.
Cheers,
Bruce Lindsey
