NEWSLETTER | TERM 4 | WEEK 4 | 2 NOVEMBER 2023
“God of unending mercy,
this All Soul’s Day we remember and pray for the loved ones
who have departed from this world.
Grant them eternal rest in your heavenly kingdom
so that they may rejoice in your presence.
May perpetual light shine upon them, leading them
into your comforting embrace. Amen.”
Dear Parents and Carers,
This term our Year 3 students will celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on Saturday, 11 November at St Columba’s Church. I would ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers in the lead up to this special day.
Our prayers and thoughts are with a staff member who has had a family member pass away
recently. These times are not always easy and the support of friends and family is always
much appreciated.
The celebration of Grandparents and Friends Day last week was an outstanding success.
A huge thank you to the P&F and the parents involved in organising the Grandparents morning tea. It was exceptionally well catered for, and well organised. Also, a big thank you to Mr Yock for organising the Grandparents Mass and Liturgy, the Church was full for both celebrations and there were many positive comments from families who attended.
Our Year 5 students will hold their speeches and elections in Week 7 as they prepare for the
Year 6 Student Leadership roles. I would like to thank Mrs Seaber and Mrs Crugnale for preparing the students in preparation for the elections.
The Carol’s Night will be on Friday, 1 December on the school bottom oval. It is a requirement that students attend, as each class will be singing a carol. The carol singing for all classes should take approximately 45 minutes to an hour. The evening will begin with the Choir singing from 5:45pm and the classes from 6:00pm.
The School Advisory Council ACM and P&F AGM will be held on Monday, 6 November at
6:00pm in the school undercover area.
A reminder, students will finish this term on Friday, 8 December.
God Bless.

Principal

Sacrament of Reconciliation
We wish our Reconciliation candidates well as they prepare to receive this Sacrament on Saturday, 11 November at St Columba’s Parish, under the guidance of Monsignor O’Loughlin.
Students have been well supported in their preparation, with a Reconciliation Retreat Day scheduled next week. We wish them well as they take this next step in their faith journey.
Remembrance Day
Next Friday, 10 November there will be a Remembrance Day Service, commencing at 9am in Kalyara. Parents are welcome to attend.
Students are welcome to bring in a gold coin donation next Friday morning to receive a red poppy. All proceeds collected will go directly towards the Vic Park / South Perth RSL.
Remembrance Day falls on the 11th of November each year.
On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minutes’ silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation.
In Australia and other allied countries, including New Zealand, Canada and the United States, 11 November became known as Armistice Day – a day to remember those who died in World War One. The day continues to be commemorated in allied countries.
After World War Two, the Australian Government agreed to the United Kingdom’s proposal that Armistice Day be renamed Remembrance Day to commemorate those who were killed in both World Wars. Today the loss of Australian lives from all wars and conflicts is commemorated on Remembrance Day.
St Vinnies Christmas Appeal - Commences Thursday 9 November (Week 5)
All Saints Day / All Souls Day
On All Saints' Day, November 1st, we celebrate all saints who are in heaven. These include all known and unknown saints. It is a holiday rooted in the belief that the world is spiritually connected to heaven. All Saints' Day is considered a holy day of obligation, requiring Catholics to attend Mass.
Our Year 1-6 students attended Mass at 9am to celebrate this special day, led by our Year 4 team.
Just as All Saints, Day celebrates all the saints who have made it to heaven, All Souls' Day honours those who have gone before us.
