Boals Weekly
Boals Elementary the one where the story begins with us!
Message from Principal Beran
Happy Thursday Boals' Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you well as we get ready to finish our third week of school. Please join us this evening at 5:30 pm, in the Boals Library, for our first PTA meeting of the school year followed by our Room Parent Orientation Training.
I want to take this opportunity to emphasize the significance of our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the invaluable role of parents collaborating with us to create a vibrant learning community.
The PTA plays a vital role in enhancing our school experience, and its impact extends far beyond fundraising activities. It services as a bridge between parents, teachers, and the school administration. By actively participating in the PTA, parents have the opportunity to contribute their unique perspective, skills, and experiences towards the betterment of our school.
In the Boals Weekly, you will always find ways to get involved in the PTA. Please stay tuned for more upcoming PTA meetings, events and volunteering opportunities. Together, we can make this academic year remarkable.
Please continue to check out our Boals website , Boals PTA Website and District website for upcoming information.
Proud Principal,
Christina Beran

GOOD MORNING BOALS AND CELEBRATION OF LEARNING
Due to the size of our student enrollment and spacing issues in the Cafeteria, Visitors to Good Morning Boals and Celebration of Learnings will be limited to the families of students performing and/or receiving a Character Award. Teachers will notify you when your child is performing or receiving an award by sending you an invitation. Thank you for your support as we continue to grow in size and ensure safety of all our students during our weekly assemblies. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Notes from Nurse Olson, School Nurse
Hello Boals Parents!
I need your help! My direct phone number is (469) 633-3308. Please take a moment right now to add my direct phone number to your mobile phone contact lists. That way if I ever need to contact you because your child is ill or injured, my phone number won’t show as unknown or be unfamiliar to you. With all the telemarketer/spam calls everyone gets daily, most of us ignore numbers we don’t know. If you see my number, please pick up, or at least check a voicemail and call me back as soon as you safely can. I will always leave a voicemail if you don’t pick up. I generally don’t call parents during the school day unless they need to pick up an ill or injured student. I know you’re busy, so won’t interrupt your day with a phone call unless it’s necessary. Thank you for helping me with this!
Wishing you all a happy and healthy school year!

Attendance Reporting
Attendance Reporting
FISD requires all full day Absences be reported in writing using the FISD Absence Report Form. A form must be submitted for each date a student is absent, regardless of reason, unless a doctor’s note is also uploaded and lists a specific date range. If one is available, always submit a doctor's note to support an absence(s). The Absence Report Form must be submitted within three school days of your student's return in order to be reviewed.
The link to the form listed below can also be found on the Boals website:
https://schools.friscoisd.org/campus/elementary/boals/hom
FISD's policy has a limit of 8 absences per school year that can be excused by parent note (4 per semester). All other absences must be accompanied by a doctor's note or the absence will be coded Unexcused.
If your student misses part of a school day due to a doctor's appointment, a medical note must be submitted within three school days to excuse the missed time.
If your student will be absent 3 or more consecutive school days due a family trip, please call the Office to request the FISD Extended Absence Notification Form.
More detailed information about FISD's Attendance policy can be found on the FAQ section of the website

Notes from Mrs. Isler, School Counselor
I am so excited for an amazing ’23- ’24 school year!! It has been wonderful to see our returning families and students and meet so many of our new families to Boals!
As a school counselor, I get the opportunity to meet with each Kindergarten to 5th grade class at our campus. I also get to work with students in small groups or individually, as needed. I am here to support families as well. Below is a flyer for some of the resources available to our families. Please let me know if I can help you in any way!

District Information
Gold Cards for Senior Citizens
The Gold Card allows those who are age 60 and older and live within the FISD enrollment boundaries to get free admission to most District athletic and fine arts events. The 2023-24 Gold Cards can be picked up at the FISD Athletic Office (7210 Stadium Lane). A picture ID with a home address must be shown in order to receive a Gold Card. More information is available here.
Reporting an Absence
All absences, excused and unexcused, count toward the state’s compulsory attendance law. When a student's attendance rate drops below 90%, the student may earn credit for the class or a final grade by completing a plan approved by the principal - as long as their attendance rate remains above 75%. Students below 75% are not eligible for the principal plan. All absences can easily be submitted in the form at the top of our campus website. Learn more about the attendance policy.
We’re Here for Your Family
Our campus has a school support specialist ready to provide personalized, hands-on support in securing assistance from community organizations or government agencies. The specialists ensure students’ basic needs are met, allowing them to focus on learning in the classroom. Contact your campus counselor to initiate the process if you’d like help addressing needs related to mental health, food insecurity, medical and legal services, and much more.
Report Concerns with STOPit
As a reminder, students and parents can report incidents of bullying or harassment online using our District’s anonymous reporting system called STOPit. Learn about STOPit and how to report.
FISD collaborates with the City of Frisco, City of McKinney, Town of Little Elm, and the City of Plano Police and Fire/EMS to keep our schools safe. As partners, safety is a top priority, and our campus relies on the continued support of students, parents, and the community to keep schools safe. By submitting a report, campus administrators receive a notification regarding student and parent concerns.
Access the Elementary Curriculum Outline
Frisco ISD parents can access the curriculum outline and pacing guides used Districtwide for each grade level. The curriculum outlines are created and revised each year by District educators and are rooted in the statewide curriculum standards provided by the Texas Education Agency called the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS.) Access the curriculum and pacing page.
Reminder: Your Words Matter
Frisco ISD collaborates with local police to keep schools safe. We urge parents to remind their children that words matter and can have serious consequences. https://youtu.be/aEY6FaSC6EE
Campus Multi-Tiered System of Support
Each FISD campus has several supports in place to ensure each student receives personalized attention and assistance to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The comprehensive MTSS webpage has resources to empower staff and parents with valuable information about the different tiers of support to enhance collaboration between schools and families. Please explore the valuable resources and information aimed at empowering families to make informed decisions.
Winter Weather Procedures
FISD closely monitors weather forecasts in anticipation of possible ice and/or snow accumulation. During and after a weather event, the District coordinates closely with the City of Frisco and other area emergency management officials to determine the status of local road conditions. This information is used to make a final decision about whether to open schools no later than 5:30 a.m. each school day. If FISD does not communicate with you regarding a school closing or delayed start, there are no changes to the regular school day.
Frisco ISD will notify families via email and text in the event of a school closure or delayed start. The District and campus websites will also be updated with alerts of school closures, as well as the District’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. This information will also be shared with local television and radio stations. Parents and staff can ensure you are subscribed to text messages from Frisco ISD by texting “Y” or “Yes” to 67587.
COVID-19 Absences
For the 2023-24 school year, students with a positive COVID test will receive up to five excused absences per occurrence. Parents must submit a picture or copy of a positive COVID test and students quarantined without a positive COVID test may be excused with a parent note for each day absent. These parent notes will count toward the eight parent notes allowed by Frisco ISD. All absences will be considered when working through 90% attendance for credit and should be submitted in the form at the top of our campus website.
Check Out the Community Folder
The community folder on the District website contains information about goods and services that may interest the FISD community. You can find everything from discounts on kids’ camps to volunteer opportunities.
Sign up for Emergency Alerts
Frisco ISD utilizes the School Messenger text messaging service on a limited basis to communicate timely information such as school closures/delays or campus emergencies. Parents, not sure if you are signed up? Opt-in by texting “Y” or “Yes” to 67587. This system is maintained separately from Remind, which some teachers and coaches use to text message students and parents.
Get a Background Check and Explore Volunteer Opportunities
FISD Board Policy requires each volunteer, chaperone, and/or mentor to undergo a background check annually before working with students. Frisco ISD uses VOLY, a volunteer management system, to complete background checks and to post volunteer opportunities. To work with students on campus, you must create a VOLY account by visiting https://friscoisd.voly.org.
You will be prompted to complete the background check during your VOLY account creation process. Keep an eye on your inbox for your background check approval (the process can take up to 3-5 business days). VOLY will send you customized emails with opportunities that may interest you for volunteering. If you need help, email volunteer@friscoisd.org, call 469-633-6860, or complete a ticket through the VOLY support system.
Breakfast & Lunch in the School Cafeteria
