And to those who could not attend, we are planning on hosting it again next fall.

Spring Break will take place from April 4-8, 2022. We wish you and your loved ones a safe, joyful, and restful time!

Please avoid sending any blue or red drinks with your child's lunch. We are having accidental spills on classroom carpets and unfortunately, those stains can no be removed.

Throughout the pandemic, GCPS has made adjustments to its mitigation strategies as circumstances have changed, and does so again, based on new guidance and the prevention steps announced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Friday, Feb. 25. As part of the announced changes, the CDC is dropping its recommendation for universal school masking and instead will recommend masking only in communities at a high level of risk.

GCPS encourages our community to learn more about COVID-19 vaccinations and take advantage of opportunities to get vaccinated. In an ongoing partnership with the Gwinnett Health Department and other health partners, GCPS continues to host vaccination clinics at high schools around the county during March and April. No appointment is necessary. Vaccinations are available for ages 5 and older. Children ages 5-17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

We continue our committment to maintain in-person instruction. However, in the event that there is a need to temporarily pivot to digital learning we want to be certain that each student has access. Our teachers and students are ready IF we need to make this change.

In the event we temporarily transition to digital learning, Coleman Middle will implement our typical digital learning day plan and schedule.

As a reminder:

Teachers will post a lesson for students to complete in Google Classroom - Humanities, Math, Science, and Connections. Students may log on at any time during the day to complete the lessons posted in Google Classroom; live instruction will not take place.

Teachers will be available via Zoom (Zoom link found on every teacher's eCLASS page) at the following times to answer questions:

6th grade - 10:15 - 10:45

7th grade - 11:00 - 11:30

8th grade - 12:30 - 1:00

Connections - 1:15 - 1:45

Beginning on 1/6, homeroom teachers surveyed students to determine if a device would be needed for digital learning. If your student still needs a device, please tell her/him to speak to their homeroom teacher or call the front office at 678-407-7400.

Please remember that students and families will be responsible for lost or damaged devices.

The Georgia Department of Education will be conducting the STEAM Re-Certification visit at Coleman Middle School on Tuesday, March 29, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

During this visit, multiple educators from the Department of Education observe classes, interview teachers, other staff members, and students, as well as review documents, pictures, and other artifacts that evidence the STEAM focus of our instructional program. Final decision on STEAM re-certification will be released shortly after the visit.

Our teachers have been planning our last PBL this year! PBL Launch on each grade level will be taking place on Friday, March 25. Our teachers have planned a day of interactive, hands-on, and collaborative learning to launch this PBL. Ask your children what they did during PBL Launch!

We are proud to share that one of our Faculty members, our STEAM Coordinator, Sheila Harmony has been selected to serve in the Duluth Public Arts Commission (DPAC)!

As we approach the end of the semester, we are getting ready to collect all electronic devices for testing, inventory, and maintenance purposes. If your student checked out an electronic device to bring home this semester, please ask them to bring the device and the charger to the Media Center from 3/28-4/1, from 9:15 to 9:45 AM.

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting 5th grade students currently attending Chattahoochee ES on Wednesday, March 30th, as part of our articulation program and in anticipation to their promotion to Coleman Middle School next school year.

We will be hosting rising 6th grade parents on Monday, March 28 at 6:00 PM in the Coleman Café.

Our Spring Walk & Talk, will take place on Friday, April 1st.

Gwinnett County Public School Procedure P.JBA states that a current Georgia certificate of immunization, form 3231, must be submitted to school otherwise your student must be excluded from attendance. All students are required to receive one dose of Tdap and one dose of MCV4 vaccines before starting 7th grade.

If you are not sure if your student have received these vaccines, please contact your health care provider, or you can call the school clinic at 678-407-7410.

Your student will be excluded from attendance after Spring Break, unless a current certificate is submitted.

Dual enrollment is a program from the GA Department of Education designed to prepare students for college and career opportunities leading students to postsecondary institutions for an industry recognized certification or lic​ensure, an associate and/or higher college ​​​degree, and successful employment. The basketball goal purchased with PTA funds and donated to Coleman Middle School has been installed! Thank you to our PTA members who helped this project become a reality. We will keep you posted on how it will be utilized and share pictures soon!

PTA is offering some new spirit wear designs for students, staff, teachers, and parents. These designs include an 8th grade "graduation" tee for the first time in a few years. We NEED parents interested in taking a position on the Board. Many of us currently on the Board are either moving on from CMS or reaching the end of our two years of eligibility in or current positions - this includes the two Presidents!

A parent empowerment conference held in SPANISH on March 19, 2022 at Meadowcreek High School, GCPS. ALL Spanish & bilingual speaking Latino parents are invited to participate. We invite you to our 10th Annual Latino College and STEM Fair! Join us online for bilingual workshops, and inspirational conversations with Latino college students, parents, professors, and other STEM professionals. Various prizes and raffles for attendees. Hands-on STEM workshops will be available for schools and community organizations. This will be a free, fun, educational and exciting event organized by Georgia Tech’s GoSTEM program in partnership with HoPe (Hispanic Organization Promoting Education). You don’t want to miss it!

In partnership with the Gwinnett County Public Library (GCPL), GCPS provides Tutor.com as an online tutoring resource for students. Live tutoring support is available daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. In addition, students can receive “drop-off support,” 24-7, by uploading a document for tutor feedback that will be reviewed and returned at a later time.
