Happy New Year!
January 7th, 2024
🎉 Welcome Back🎉
Welcome Back!
Dear Students and Families,
I look forward to seeing everyone bright and early on January 8th as it is our first day back after winter break.
I hope that you were able to enjoy the holiday season and that you were also afforded opportunities to get some much-needed rest and rejuvenation. Over the last two weeks, I spent time with family, reading, and feasting on the delicious foods of the season:
Coconut Cake
Sweet Potato Pie
Chicken Tamales
Curry
Candy Canes
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who sent a card, shared personal creations, or gave gift cards, chocolates and other gifts to me and the wonderful McKinley staff. It was so generous of you to share gifts with us. Thank you!
As we prepare to receive students tomorrow, January 8, 2024, I would like to take a brief moment to provide you with a few reminders:
- Please screen your child for COVID symptoms before sending them to school (I wish Covid was completely over too)
- If your child is feeling sick, please do not bring them to school, call the school and report the absence ext. 73091
- Please be sure to check any assignments that your child was to complete of the break. January 8th, starts a new semester for middle schoolers.

Time To Check In With Your Child's Teacher
Please note, January 8th starts the second semester of the 2023-2024 school year. That's right, the school year is halfway completed. This is the perfect time to check in with your child's teacher to gain insight into your child's academic performance and ability.
What parents may do:
- Make an appointment to speak with your child's teacher.
- Visit your child's class (s).
- Review your child's report card.
- Check your child's backpack daily.
Be sure to ask questions that are specific:
- What is my child's reading leaving?
- Is my child performing on grade level?
- What three things can I do to help my child perform better in school?
- What projects will my child need to complete this semester?
Parents you will be pleased with the progress your child will make when you show interest in school work, homework, projects, and their mastery of basic skills. As you know, the best way to improve is to practice, practice, practice.
