From the Principal's Desk: 33 Instructional Days Until STAAR
Happy Black History Month Bailey Parents,
I hope all of our students had a wonderful and restful long weekend. We are back to a fast paced 4-day week as we continue to move towards STAAR. There are 33 Instructional Days away from STAAR. Beginning on Friday, 2/23/24 through 2/28/24 , we will give our district benchmarks. This benchmark assessment will be a measure of all that our students have learned and guide our focus for content review in the next few weeks. Due to the benchmarks being pushed up, 8th grade Super Day shutdown on 2/20/24 has been postponed. Beginning the week of March 4th, we will begin school day pull-outs during elective classes to continue to support their growth for STAAR.
As we have maintained during the entire school year, electronic devices are to be kept in students' backpack during the day so that the focus is on instruction. Electronic devices are not allowed to be in usage during the school day. Students can call parents from the office if necessary. Any student caught using electronic devices and recording other students during the instructional day, will have the devices confiscated and parents contacted. Thank you in advance for supporting our school/district policies that keep the focus on instruction.
There are several ways that we are preparing for the STAAR test in April.:
- Online STAAR Practice at https://www.texasassessment.gov/
- We have created 1 Super Day each Month through March to help our 8th graders get additional instructional hours in Science & Social Studies content areas.
- Structured After School Tutorials will only occur on Tuesday this week. If you are interested in your student attending, contact Ms. Elijah, Instructional Specialist, at celijah@springisd.org.
- Super Saturday learning, (this Saturday, 2/24/24), once a month to close the gaps in learning and accelerate learning for students.
- Writing Wednesday. In Science, Social Studies, and English classes, students will be writing!! The pneumonic that we use for writing is CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning). The more evidence a student cites, the better.
- Daily intervention using APEX learning during 11th period.
You will receive individual communication about about any special learning events that your child will participate in over the next couple of weeks.
With all of the STAAR preparation happening, we can't forget to continue to celebrate Black History Month. Our culminating campus event will be on Thursday evening at 6pm with a Tribute to H-Town!!! Come out and see our students celebrate the rich culture of Houston and the contribution of it's black residents. Friday will also be 70's Day or Go Texas! We look forward to seeing our students and teachers dressed up!
Thank you for your ongoing support.

Bus Transportation with Route Tracker
Although we begin dismissing busses at 4:25PM, we have busses that arrive later due to multiple routes. You can monitor your child bus route each day to see when it arrives by clicking here. When a bus arrives, the route will appear. When it leaves, the route turns green.
Please contact the transportation department with any questions or concerns about bus routes and pick-up times. 281-891-6490. http://www.infofinderi.com/ifi/?cid=SI3EP1SK4WO
