Washington Elementary School
NOVEMBER 2022
Message from Mrs. Zeman
Greetings Washington Families,
We are so excited to partner with you this week at conferences! It has been a great start to quarter 2; routines are in place and we are really digging into deep learning.
Cold and flu season is upon us, and our numbers of students out with flu-like symptoms has been on the rise. This is just a reminder that if a student has a fever, they need to be fever free (without fever-reducing medications) for 24 hours before returning to school. If a student has vomiting or diarrhea due to illness, they need to be without incident for 24 hours before returning to school. Please review the importance of handwashing with your students (and we also will here at school). We want to keep everyone healthy, so we can keep on learning!
If you are looking for a deeper conversation this week about school, here are a few prompts:
*What book are you reading during independent reading at school, and what is that book about?
*Show a math problem you did today, and tell me how you might solve it in different ways.
*What do you think your teacher will say at conferences, and why?
We are looking forward to seeing you at conferences!
Mrs. Zeman

Book Fair
Thank you for those who have volunteered to work at the book fair! Please stop by during conferences and check it out.
Drop Off/Pick Up
The intersections near our school are very busy, and winter road conditions bring additional challenges. Please remember to drop students off in the drop off line (on 14th Street) or to have them cross in the cross-walks. The green-curbed bus area on St. Paul Rd is reserved for buses only. We want to keep all of our students safe.

Screenagers Follow Up Questions
Owatonna families and students had an opportunity to watch the documentary "Screenagers". This documentary highlighted the challenges that come from raising children in this digital age. This LINK shares a few highlights and tips from the documentary.
