Well it's very clear that our staff and students support the Detroit Lions in their bid for the NFC Championship when they take on the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday. We invited everyone to wear their Lions gear today and as you will see in some of these pictures, the pride we have is very much alive! Go Lions!

State Legislative Tribute presented to student athlete Carter Herriman
Davison High School senior Carter Herriman headed to Miami University in Ohio this week to begin his football career for the Redhawks football team. But before he left, State Representative David Martin and State Senator Kevin Daly wanted to present the two-time team captain of the Davison High School football team with a tribute for his accomplishments on and off the field. Martin, a 1979 graduate of Davison High School, made sure to bring his Davison ball cap to wear as he presented the tribute to Carter as his parents, Shane and Katie, looked on.
Carter's stats include earning first-team all-state after recording 131 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and eight touchdowns as a senior. He was named to the Detroit Free Press 2023 Dream Team.
Carter also had an excellent year as a junior, earning first-team all-state after recording 120 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and four touchdowns. He was also named Flint Area First-Team All-Dream Team and his conference’s player of the year as a junior.
Carter owns the school record for career tackles and in the 60-meter dash.

Positivity Project
Next week's Character Trait: Supporting Others When They Struggle
Supporting other people when they struggle is a critical piece of being human. There is a Chinese saying that sums this up: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”
There are many different approaches to helping people who are struggling. These can include: listening while they describe an event and their feelings about it, taking action to help people in need, or simply just being there and sitting together in silence. Talking through a problem is a common way to help a person who is going through a tough time. When thinking about how to help them through conversation, it can be useful to (a) validate, rather than dismissing, their feelings, (b) help them reappraise the situation, and (c) *carefully* point out logic/thinking errors that may block them from healing.
