FAFSA= College Grant Money. Apply NOW!
October 1st marks an important date on any senior's calendar who is planning to attend a technical school, two year college, or four year university. October 1st is the official date when the FAFSA opens.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a requirement for seniors who hope to obtain institutional financial aid, grants, or government backed student loans. I'd encourage parents and students to create their Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID now, so you can sign documents electronically. Make sure to write down your username and password in a secure spot. You can find more information on the FSA ID by clicking on the PDF file below.
If you are unfamiliar with the FAFSA, click HERE . The site will walk you through everything you need to have and know to complete the FAFSA successfully.
You will also find various FAFSA information in the links below:

On Wednesday, October 26 from 4:30 - 6:00 PM Herndon Career Center/Southland CAPS will be conducting a FAFSA Frenzy. FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and is required of all graduating seniors who anticipate enrolling in a post-secondary institution such as a 2-year or 4-year college. The FAFSA helps determine eligibility for work-study and grant funding and is required by some institutions for need based scholarships. Staff at Herndon will be available to support the FAFSA completion for any students enrolled in one of our partner schools. Prior to attending the FAFSA Frenzy students and parents should sign up for their FSA ID. The FSA ID is used as a digital signature for federal student aid documentation. Parents will need to have filed their 2021 tax returns; an IRS recovery tool is available during FAFSA completion, but a completed copy of 2021 tax returns will ensure that the FAFSA can be completed during this time. If you have any questions email our school counselor Nate Zier at nate.zier@raytownschools.org

Freshmen:
It is important that Freshmen come to high school knowing what credits are and why they are important. You earn high school credit for each class you take and pass. If you do not pass a class, you do not earn credits toward graduation. You will most likely have to repeat that class. Students must earn 25 credits to graduate high school. See below for a credit breakdown:
- 0-4.5 credits= 9th grade
- 5-10.5 credits= 10th grade
- 11-16.5 credits= 11th grade
- 17-25 credits= 12th grade
Check in with your counselor to make sure you are earning enough credits each year and progressing towards graduation.
