When It's Okay to Miss School: A Guide for Elementary Students
Going to school is important for learning and growing, but there are times when it's okay to miss a day. In this article, we'll explore some valid reasons for missing school and how to handle these situations responsibly.
Feeling Sick:
If you wake up feeling unwell, it's essential to listen to your body. Running a fever, having a bad cough, or feeling too weak are signs that you might need to stay home. Missing one day to rest and recover is okay because taking care of your health is a top priority.
Doctor's Appointment:
Sometimes, you may need to visit the doctor or dentist for a check-up or to address a specific health concern. These appointments are necessary for your well-being, and it's perfectly fine to miss school for them. Make sure to let your teacher and parents know in advance.
Family Events:
Family events, like weddings or important gatherings, are special occasions where you might miss a day of school. These events create lasting memories and bring families closer together. Just be sure to inform your teacher ahead of time and catch up on any missed assignments.
Educational Trips:
Occasionally, your family might plan an educational trip that falls on a school day. These experiences can be enriching and provide valuable learning opportunities. Before the trip, discuss it with your teacher, and make arrangements to complete any assignments or homework.
Remember:
Always inform teachers/school if you need to miss school.
Be responsible and complete any missed assignments promptly
Try not to make a habit of missing school unless it's necessary.
Make an effort to catch up on the lessons you missed to stay on track with your learning.
Because of your outstanding support, Woodside Elementary will be celebrating 366 students with perfect and excellent attendance during the month of January. This is 80% of our students!! Outstanding!

¡Excepcional!

Notes From Mr. Little
February is American Heart Month.
For a healthy, happy heart the Surgeon General recommends 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise. Like brisk walking or bicycling, every week for adults. Children and adolescents should get 1 hour of physical activity every day.

Custome Ideas:
Need a Dutch Custome?
Visit a local thrift store. Starting around February, resale shops in the area begin to display various Dutch Customes for a decent price.
Follow the options below to "create" your own version on a Dutch custome. these styles will work for all ages!
Create your own Dutch Custom:
Visit Field's Fabrics on 8th Street. They have patterns to follow to have a custome made to fit you. They carry infant-adult custome patterns for both male and female styles.
We have a couple of tips to "create" a custome without having to sew one from scratch!
Female Style
Find a black maxi dress/long dress or a long black skirt with a black shirt..
Tie an apron that is striped, or made from white lace around your waist.
Purchase a white Dutch hat from Field's Fabrics or Dutch Village wear on your head.
Top it off with a red beaded necklace.
Male Style
Wear a pair of black dress pants.
Add a striped shirt (blue and white is common for Dutch customes).
Optional: wear a black button up vest over your shirt.
Tie a red bandana loosely around your neck.
Purchase a black Dutchman hat from Field's Fabric or Dutch Village to complete the look!

WIDA TESTING
In the months of February and March, students who speak a language other than English will take a state assessment called WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment). This assessment measures a student’s level of academic English language proficiency. At this time, there are 119 students at Woodside that will take the assessment. The test consists of four separate tests - listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Students are given questions within the areas of math, social studies, science, and language arts as a means to produce academic language.
WIDA gives our students an opportunity to show what they know and helps us track their progress.
If you have any questions regarding WIDA testing, please feel free to contact the Woodside’s Core Support ELL Team.

EVALUACION WIDA
