Congratulations, Ms. Welden!
Ms. Stacey Welden, our fabulous media specialist, was awarded a $3000 mini-grant from the Boone County Education Foundation. She will use this money to help students build a collection of books for our English language learners. Thanks for working hard to serve our students, Ms. Welden!
Library Fund Raiser
We are $57 away from our $3000 goal! We can do it!
Students who participated by earning donations, be sure to go in and spend your reward money.
Also, thank you to all who helped! FES appreciates all the hard work to update our library!

Here's What We're Learning this Week
Kindergarten
Reading/Writing- We are working on 3 star writing using an uppercase letter, finger spaces and punctuation.
Math- We are working on finding different numbers to use to make 10.
Science- We are talking about changing temperatures.
Social Studies- Community and how others celebrate different holidays.
First Grade
Reading/Writing- We will be reading Nicola Davies books! We are exploring the animal world this week.
Math- We will be solving comparison problems!
Social Studies- We are continuing to learn about money! This week we are focusing on goods and services.
Second Grade
Reading/Writing-Students will be doing an author study on Jan Brett. Students will also be working on using a story's illustrations and words in print/non-print texts to demonstrate understanding of characters, setting and plot. In phonics, students will be working to decode and encode words with three-letter blends str- , spl-, spr-, scr-, shr-, thr-.
Math-Students will be working on exploring and understanding place value with three-digit numbers.
Social Studies-Students are continuing to work on Earth's surfaces and creating a project to show what they've learned.
Third Grade
Reading/Writing-The students are working on writing opinion pieces.
Math-The students are still working on area.
Science-The students are understanding that force is a push or pull that cause a change in motion and involves an interaction between two objects.
Other Info from 3rd Grade- The students will have a visit from Sheila Bair on December 4th and participate in a reading event. She will speak to the students about financial literacy. Students will receive a copy of one of her books.
Fifth Grade
Reading/Writing- Students will be reading a book called "Balloons Over Broadway" and doing activities involving the book!
Math- Students will begin the division unit and be able to divide three digit by two digit numbers.
Science- Students can explain the role earthworms play in an ecosystem.
Social Studies- Students will be studying the life of John Adams.

With the cold/wet weather here, it is encouraged that the students that ride the bus keep their coats on during the ride to and from school.

Meet our Bus Drivers!
Mr. Dave Burton (bus 137) is the lead driver for FES. He has been driving for Boone County Schools for 12 years. He grew up in Chicago and attended Our Lady Help of Christians School. Before becoming a bus driver, Mr. Dave served 20 years in the US Navy. He also worked in security at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport. When he's not driving a school bus, Mr. Dave enjoys fishing and working on his computer skills.
SBDM Update (UPDATED FROM LAST WEEK)
The School Based Decision Making Council at FES is made up of the principal (Ryan Burch), three teachers (Alicia Bachman, Abbigail Supe, and Megan Timmerding), and two parents (Alicia Coulter and Vee Miller). This group makes policy decisions and approves some of the school's financial and instructional activities. Meetings are usually held on the first Monday of each month at 4:15 in the FES library. Meetings are open to the public (except for occasional closed sessions).
The next meeting is on Monday, December 4th at 4:15 in the library.
