Principal's Message
Dear Families and Students,
I hope you all had a great week. I want to remind you that next week we will continue state testing at OSHS. Please see the testing calendar in the newsletter below and also note that Wednesday, May 1st will be a full day of school.
We are pleased to announce that a group of our 11th and 12th grade students took the BACE exam this past Saturday. Congratulations to Dante C, Viviana S, Arisha T, Sumaiyah M, Tiffany P, Miscia F, Caitlin U, Tony H, Jenny N, Harshitha U, Dylan M, James S, Gina P, Sebastian N, Hayden F and Dysiah B.
Also Siyona M. and Jaehyun A. competed in the US Biology Olympiad on Thursday. Good luck to Anthony L. and Jaehyun A. who will compete in the US Chemistry Olympiad this Saturday. We are proud of all of you and your hard work and dedication to your studies!
Oscar's EGGstravaganza was a success! Thank you to all the OSS K-12 families who supported our OSHS SGA. This charity event raised $600 for Nathaniel's Hope!
This coming week begins OSHS's Teacher Appreciation Week! There's still time to sign up for donations, your help is appreciated in making the a wonderful week for our amazing teachers.
There are many exciting events leading up to the end of the 2018-2019 school year. Prom, the OSS MH Band Spring Concert, the Sports Banquet, International Night and 8th and 12th grade graduations are fast approaching. We look forward to celebrating all of the accomplishments achieved this year!

Saturday Leadership Academy & AP Studies
Attention OSS Middle High Families, Saturday Leadership Academy and AP Saturday Studies will continue this Saturday, April 27th. Please make every effort to attend in order to be better prepared for upcoming tests.
High School families: Please note the time difference for AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP Statistics, and AP Geography.
4th Qtr Progress Reports
FSA ELA Testing Reminder
FSA ELA Testing begins Wednesday, May 1st and continues Thursday, May 2nd for all OSS Middle High School 6th-10th graders. 7th-10th graders will take a computer based test and will NEED HEADPHONES with an auxiliary connection! Please be sure your child comes to school with the proper headphones. No wireless headphones allowed.
All students should get a good night's rest and eat breakfast this week so that they feel their best. Students also need to come to school with headphones that have an auxiliary connection. Good luck Orcas!
4th Qtr Parent Teacher Conferences
The OSHS 4th and final Parent Teacher Conference Nights for the 2018-2019 School Year will be held on the dates and times listed above. Please review ALL of the information found in the link below. Be sure to sign up before Sunday, April 28th at 6pm.
Teacher Appreciation Week
We will be holding our annual Teacher Appreciation Week during the week of April 29th, 2019-May 3rd, 2019. Below you will find the schedule for the week's events, along with the link of donations needed. 2019 junior senior prom
Important Prom Details:
- The last day to purchase prom tickets is Tuesday, April 30th 11:59PM.
- Students may bring a guest but must submit the guest form for approval prior to the event.
- Mr. Yalcin has approved to excuse from school all junior & senior students in good standing AND who have prom tickets on Friday, May 3rd. This will give students time to prepare for their special night.
- Prom volunteers will be doing Prom Prep on Thursday, May 2nd starting after school. Parents and students are encouraged to participate.
- Prom Prep will be held at the house of Lynda C. Please call, text or email for the address.
- Prom decorating on May 3rd will begin at 3:00 pm. If you can help with either day or both, please email oss.pvo@orlandoscience.org or call 407-325-1841 to let Lynda know you can help.

International Night is Coming!
Come on a journey "around the world" and experience the cultures of: Brazil, Cuba, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Poland, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Spain, Turkey and the United States.
If you or your family hails from one of the countries, or if you are simply interested in learning more about one of them, please consider contributing as a volunteer. Your time, experience, skills and donations are all appreciated and needed to keep this event authentic and make it a success.

Attention 8th-11th grade orcas: make your 2019-2020 course requests here
Take time to carefully select possible courses in the order of your preference. Due to class size restrictions, prerequisites and your academic readiness, you may not be assigned the classes you requested. Sometimes, your last choice is the only option that will work when creating a schedule. Therefore, please complete all of the course categories including the contingency (back-up) course offerings. We will try our best to accommodate your requests. All final placement decisions will be made by the administration and guidance departments after reviewing students' end of year grades and test scores.
If you are not satisfied with your schedule or have different needs, please do not hesitate to email Mr. I until the end of the first two weeks of the new school year. Students should check their high school graduation requirements from the Florida Department of Education's website.

ATTENTION OSHS Tech Campus FAMILIES:
Above you will find the 2018-2019 OSS High School Tech Campus Assessment Calendar, please keep these dates in mind when planning any upcoming appointments and vacations. It is also important to note that on the following Wednesdays listed below we will not hold our regular early release schedule. Instead, we will follow our standard release schedule to allow more time for testing.

8th Grade Graduation Details
Some general information about graduation:
Ceremony will run from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, 5/24/19
Hyatt regency OIA address: 9300 Jeff Fuqua Boulevard, Orlando, FL 32827
Parking: $4.00 Self-Parking/$7.00 Valet Parking.
Caps, gowns, and tassels must be worn upon arrival.
Open Seating for the Audience. Please do not bring more than 4 guests per student. No tickets required.
Technology Drive HS 8th Grade Graduation Early Departure
Hello 8th Grade Technology Drive HS Families,
Graduation for your students will take place on Friday, May 24th 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport. We understand that this is typically a busy day for our 8th grade families as they prepare for graduation, so for May 24th only we will allow early departure from school. In order for ED to take place you must have the form completed below by 3PM Thursday May 23rd 2018. We will not be accepting any responses after this date. If a response is not submitted your student will be picked up during our regular dismissal time frame. Please keep in mind students must be picked up from the dismissal area beginning from 12:00PM-12:30PM. Please note by signing your student up you are agreeing to pick them up in the dismissal area between 12:00 and 12:30pm if you do not pick your student up at this time you will have to wait until dismissal. No 8th grade student will be permitted to leave through the front office on this day. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Foley at Jennifer.Foley@orlandoscience.org.

We are excited to announce that the OCLS has partnered with OSS Middle/High to provide free Virtual Library Cards (VLC) to all of our students! There are many wonderful online resources students can access now from any computer with their credentials. Media Center Update
The Orlando Science High School on Technology Drive opened its doors to a newly renovated campus in August 2018. One of the great features of the High School campus is the brand new Media Center. It serves as a space where all students can read, research and study. Please consider making a donation directly to the Media Center to help Mrs. Singleton stock the shelves and create a welcoming environment for our students. Hello OSS Families! Please remember that BOX TOPS are a wonderful FREE way to raise funds for our school. Each Box Top is worth $.10 and they really add up. Please make sure to continuously send these in so that I can mail them before their expiration dates. The monies received go to supporting our academic and sport teams, the PLTW (Project Lead the Way) along with many other OSS programs and classroom needs. Join the oss Parent Volunteer Organization
Dear Orlando Science Lynx Lane and Technology High School Families,
It is time to join the Parent Volunteer Organization (PVO). Membership is $25 per family for returning families and $30 for new families, your membership dues go directly back into the school to provide items and supplies for our teachers. We are also asking that PVO members work with specific committees (School Improvement, Fundraising, Volunteer Work, Teacher Appreciation, Events, Etc.) Please utilize the SCHOOL PAY link below to pay your dues.
If you have questions, comments, or requests, you may email OSS.PVO@orlandoscience.org . A formal PVO committee, including president and vice-president, will be announced at the end of the first quarter of the 2018-2019 School Year. PVO will hold bi-monthly meetings that will inform parents of progress, agendas, and upcoming events.
