NMS Peer Facilitator (Buddies)
Peer Buddy Program
Northwestern’s Peer Buddy Program is a great opportunity for your student to make relationships and develop many skills within our special education Mild & Moderate Intellectual Disability (MIMO) department. Peer Buddies work with MIMO students and teachers. This will count as a connections class for your student. If your student participates in year-round band or orchestra, they may be limited in their availability for this program.
If your student is interested in being a part of Northwestern’s Peer Buddy Program, there will be an application posted to their homeroom TEAMS page on Monday, April 10th. The application will close Friday, April 21st. No late applications will be accepted.
Once applications are reviewed, our MIMO staff will complete interviews to complete the process. All students who are chosen as peer buddies will be notified via email and there will be rosters posted outside the MIMO classrooms.
We have a very limited number of spots and this is a tough decision every year. The buddy program is a per semester position for 7th and 8th graders. If you know of any rising 6th graders that would be a great peer buddy, please email MaryBeth Redman at redmanm@fultonschools.org.
Please send any questions to MaryBeth Redman at redmanm@fultonschools.org.
Northwestern Rising 6th grade Course Verification
Northwestern Course Verification #1
Dear NMS Parents/Families,
Course Verification #1 was sent home via your student on Friday, March 3rd and is also available to view in Campus Parent.
Currently, we are asking you to review your student’s Course Recommendations for the 2023-2024 school year (Verification #1). Please note, the courses that are currently requested for your student will be the courses on your student’s schedule for the 2023-2024 school year. Please review carefully! Due to the complexity of the master schedule, we will not be able to make mass changes in August.
To view your student’s Course Requests, log in to Campus Parent. If you do not have an account, your student can access through their Student Portal in ClassLink. Directions are attached. March 17th is the deadline to view your student’s Course Requests. This feature will be disabled in Infinite Campus to allow for the scheduling process to continue.
This is a verification of courses and is not your child’s actual schedule. The courses that should appear include the following: Math, Science, Reading/World Language, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Performing Arts selection if made. No general Connections courses will appear until the final schedule is received in August.
A course with .2 indicates a TAG course, 40/45/60 at the end indicates advanced, .9 indicates a team-taught class (students with an IEP), and .8 indicates a resource (IRR) class (students with an IEP). If your child is in the Services for Exceptional Children Program, course placement will be based upon your child’s most recent Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). If your child is not presently in this program, team-taught classes may not be requested.
Please note: TAG placement is authorized only after the proper testing has been completed.
If you have a question about a particular placement for next year, please consult your student’s current teacher.
IMPORTANT: If the courses you view are correct, you do not need to do anything else. We will consider no response as an approval of the 2023-2024 courses. If you need to request a change/update, please complete the Form:https://tinyurl.com/ea47rrn8 . You do not need to sign and return the paper copy.
If you desire to place your child in a higher-level course, against the teacher’s recommendation, the Waiver Form (https://tinyurl.com/2ysdwj53) must be completed and emailed to the rising assistant principal: Rising 6th graders - manganellia@fultonschools.org, Rising 7th graders – skimel@fultonschools.org, Rising 8th graders – simpson1@fultonschools.org.
The final deadline for submitting any changes/updates to your student's course recommendations is Friday, March 17th.
