Upcoming Events
Lincoln PTA Read-A-Thon 2023 - Galactic Battle for the Readers Cup
We have officially kicked off Read-A-Thon 2023, Galactic Battle for the Readers Cup. Your child is either on the Reading Avengers lead by Director Kitsko or the Guardians of the Library lead by I Am Staub. You can find out which one by reviewing the Read-a-Thon kick off presentation Dr. Kitsko shared with the students on 10/13/2023.
There are three important things to do for Read-A-Thon:
Log your child’s minutes in your Read-A-Thon dashboard by 9pm each evening (no more than 120 minutes per night). To get the “goal getter” chance to win Scoops Bucks each day (and a free book at the end of the 10 days), here are the minimal amounts:
- K and 1st Grades: 20 minutes/night (200 minutes for overall Read-A-Thon)
- 2nd and 3rd Grades: 25 minutes/night (250 minutes for overall Read-A-Thon)
- 4th and 5th Grades: 30 minutes/night (300 minutes for overall Read-A-Thon)
Ask for donations through the dashboard.
Mostly importantly, have fun!
We kicked things off on 10/13/23, so start logging by 9pm! We’ll run every day through the weekend (please log each day separately), and then finish up on the evening of Sunday, 10/22/23. Instructions were sent home on how to activate your child's personal page. This is where you will be able to view and record their reading progress and sponsor your student. You can scan the QR code in your child’s take home packet to initiate setting up your child’s account. You will be able to register your child by entering their teacher’s name and then your child’s name and following the simple instructions to set up your account. Alternatively you can activate your reader’s account today by clicking on:
If you have any questions or concerns please email lincolnelemreadathon@gmail.com for assistance.

Veterans Day Program
The annual Lincoln Veterans Day program will be at 10:00 am on Friday, November 10, 2023. This salute to local veterans is sure to be an awe-inspiring and emotional program for all in attendance. We want to thank Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Showalter, Ms. Angerett, Mrs. Staub, Mr. Yannascoli, the Lincoln staff and students who have prepared so diligently in advance of this program. We are asking everyone to wear red, white and blue to honor all veterans on this special day.
We are going to host our annual Veterans Day program in person. While we have room for our veteran guests, their immediate family, our students and staff, we are not able to open this up to the public. We will be livestreaming the program for those that want to participate virtually. Our planning committee is already hard at work behind the scenes. To make this special program which honors, celebrates and remembers the contributions of our local veterans what it needs to be, focused on our veterans, we need your help.
If you have a veteran connected with you or your family in any manner and would like us to honor that person during the program, please complete the form below. You can submit this form more than once for each veteran you want to have included in the program. If your veteran will be in attendance, please let us know this on the form as well.
Here is the slideshow from last year in case you need to check to see if you submitted a picture last year.

Recess Temperature Reminder
As we have entered the fall weather season, I want to remind our students about what they should to wear during outdoor recess. Anytime the temperature dips below 50ºF, students should wear a jacket (of some type) outside. While it is a family decision as to what each student wears to school each day, I would suggest that students not wear shorts on days when temperatures are forecasted to be below 50ºF. When the thermometer dips even lower, students should be prepared to wear hats and gloves during outside recess. We typically check AccuWeather and The Weather Channel apps for the current local temperature at approximately 11:55 am daily.
Absences and Excuses
When a student is absent from school, the family must send a written excuse or an email within 3 school days to their student's teacher. If the excuse is not provided to the teacher by the third day, the absence will be considered illegal. If a student accumulates more than three days of unlawful absences, an attendance hearing at the school will be held and the matter may be referred to the local magistrate.
When a student is absent for five or more consecutive days for health reasons, the student must be readmitted to the school through the Health Office.
Students will not be granted more than five (5) days of pre-approved absences (form linked here) during the school year. The district attendance policy can be viewed by accessing the following link - JED - Students Absences and Excuses.

A Note From The Elementary School Counselors…
Dear Families,
We are a month into the school year and things are moving full speed ahead. The colors of fall are around us and it is a good time to take some time to reflect on how you are feeling, and how you are coping if you are having a hard time. For some families, you might be watching your child(ren) race through a roller coaster of emotions. This is an opportunity to help them practice healthy coping skills. For others, things might finally be settling down. October is depression and mental health awareness month and it is also bullying prevention month so the students will be learning a lot about taking care of themselves and being kind and inclusive of others. Please view the resources provided in this newsletter to help you and your children build positive coping skills to promote healthy choices. Stay healthy and breathe deeply!
