HMS Literacy Night-Thursday, February 9, 6-7 pm
Reading...I think we all agree we all probably don't do enough. HMS is hosting a Literacy Night for parents and students on Thursday, February 9 from 6-7 pm. We will be serving Pizza to first 100 through the door. The Timberland Library will be here to talk to parents and students about some good books that may rekindle the need to read! There are also some strategies that will be shared how students can be supported at home. We are asking students who plan on attending to come to the office and grab a flyer. On the flyer is a QR code that allows you to RSVP, or you can cut off the bottom of the flyer and return it to your child's first period teacher. For more information you can contact Ms. Shasanmi, at ashasanmi@hoquiam.net We hope to see you there!
Valentine's Dance February 10, 7-9 pm
Hoquiam Middle School ASB is sponsoring a Valentine's Dance on Friday, February 10 from 7-9 pm in the HMS Gym. It is not a dress up dance or a couples dance. Its for any and all and dress code just has to meet school requirements. Cost is $5 to get in. Pizza is $2 per slice, and pictures are $1. Parents please be ready to pick up students promptly at 9 p.m.

Ms. Andrews Invites You To Take A Little Mental Vacation...
For adults or students alike, Ms. Andrews curated a number of resources to let you a take a little virtual calming time, when you think you need it. Home Wasn't Built In A Day...
In Mr. Harner's Construction Math class, both beginning and advanced students drew the parts for a small house, (each wall with windows and doors, a floor and
a roof). The only difference in the finished projects was that the beginning
students project were made from card stock and the advanced students were to
use the drill-press and scroll saws to make theirs from 3/16-inch plywood. As the
close of the project neared, two students stood out on the quality of their builds.
They are: Advanced student, Aldeen Olvera-Obi and beginning student, Monica
Garcia. Both showed great attention to not only the high amount of
measurements involved, but also to the details of the builds. Both houses and the
assignments that lead up to them will be on display soon, so please take a look at
them.
Mr. Harner can’t say enough about how proud he was of both students for completing their
projects so well and also for students in his classes that helped others to
complete this project.
Congratulations to our January Rotary Students of the Month and Perfect Attendance Recognition
January Rotary Students of the Month:
- Natishia Logan- Parents: Mary Papp. Natishia is involved both in and outside of the classroom. The 8th grade staff wanted to recognize her for her work ethic, and outstanding citizenship. She is involved in volleyball and fastpitch where she is a member of the Lady Grizzlies. Natishia loves cooking, and playing sports. She is proud of her ability to be a great sister to her siblings, and family is important to her. She is looking forward to the greater choice of classes, being a part of the dances and traditions, and taking part in high school sports as she transitions to the high school next year.
- Derek Kinney-Parents Shawna Padget & Robert Blackner. Derek is being recognized for his improvement, which is the result of a great deal of hard work. His teachers are very impressed with Derek's work ethic and focus. He is also a great all around young man. Derek's favorite class is Robotics, and technology has a specific interest for him. Derek enjoys playing video games, and building with Lego's, as it lets him use his imagination. Derek is most proud of the hard work he has put into his grades, that he is someone people can talk to, and is approachable. He is most looking forward to greater freedom, bigger choices of classes, especially those geared around making apps, and the opportunity to interact with more people at HHS.
