MEET YOUR COUNSELING STAFF:
From left to right: Moriarty, Thacher, Malinoski, Goodell, Tyler
My name is Ms. Moriarty, more commonly known as Ms. Mo, and I am beginning my fifth year as a school counselor at NMS! I love seeing how much our students grow over the course of their three years in middle school. I also coach soccer and basketball at NMS as also have advised student clubs. Outside of school, I like to go to the beach, play softball, read books, and travel.
My name is Jillian Thacher. I am extremely excited to join the John T. Nichols Middle School Team as the new School Psychologist. I am committed in my practice to diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural humility. I look forward to being an advocate for our youth. I grew up on the South Shore of Massachusetts, and I currently live in Onset, Massachusetts. In my free time I love traveling, running, and spending time with friends and family. I am looking forward to a great school year!
My name is Mrs. Goodell and I am happy to be back and look forward to working with and supporting students at Nichols this year. It is my second year as a counselor here and one of my favorite parts is seeing students at lunch! When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, dog, and visiting new places.
My name is Madison Tyler, and I am a school counselor at NMS. I have a Bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology from Boston University, and a Masters in clinical social work from Boston College. Before coming to NMS, I worked at as a clinician at a residential school for students with autism and serious mental health conditions. My favorite parts about working at NMS are getting to support so many wonderful students and always learning new things from them.

COUNSELING APPOINTMENT PROTOCOL
1. Consider what YOU have done to help the situation so far.
2. Check out our department website tab titled "helpful resources" for coping skills, grounding techniques, study tips, and more: https://www.middleboro.k12.ma.us/Page/5867.
3. Check in with the nearest adult. Lots of issues can be resolved by talking to any adult - it doesn't necessarily have to be a counselor!
Still need to chat?
THEN you can contact the counselor you're looking to see via email! We will respond as timely as possible. Please be prepared to patiently wait for availability.
Anxiety trips all of us up at one time or another - this is normal! Remember the positive self-talk statements that are specifically focused on anxiety listed above. Couple these with some deep breathing and you will be ready to tackle whatever comes at you. You are resilient!
For more coping skills, tips, and tricks, check out the "Helpful Resources" tab of our department website: https://www.middleboro.k12.ma.us/Page/5867
ACADEMIC SUCCESS
If you have trouble understanding content, please utilize your teachers' WIN block and/or after school help sessions. The staff directory, including teacher emails, can be found online here.
Parents: we strongly encourage you to periodically check your child's ASPEN account to monitor their grades. Teachers must update ASPEN at least once every two weeks. If you are unable to access your ASPEN account, please contact Katie Goodine, kgoodine@middleboro.k12.ma.us.
HIGH SCHOOL OPTIONS AND INFORMATION
Attention Grade 8 students and families: this year is going to fly by! Although most of you will join the Middleborough High School family and become Sachems, some of you may be looking to pursue your high school education elsewhere. The Counseling Department is here to help you navigate this application process.
The MOST IMPORTANT things for ALL 8th graders to do are the following:
- COME TO SCHOOL and maintain good attendance;
- TRY YOUR BEST and keep your grades up;
- BE RESPECTFUL and stay out of trouble so you can submit a clean discipline report!
Applications for ALL schools look at these things when considering you for admission. If you can maintain these three things, you will be in great shape when it’s time for schools to make their decisions.
Additionally, Middleborough High School receives these records and these things can affect whether you remain eligible for things like sports and extracurricular activities.
If you have any questions at all about the MHS experience, please feel free to email Principal Branagan at pbranagan@middleboro.k12.ma.us.
Have questions for your future school counselor? Here is their information:
BRISTOL PLYMOUTH, BRISTOL AGGIE, AND MORE!
Representatives from Bristol Plymouth Vocational Technical High School (BP) will be visiting NMS during WIN block on Friday, October 20 to present about their program.
Representatives from Bristol County Agricultural High School (Aggie) will be visiting NMS during a WIN block to be decided - stay tuned!
Thinking of attending a high school not listed here? Please reach out to Ms. Tyler at mtyler@middleboro.k12.ma.us to discuss your options!
