INTRUDER LOCK DOWN DRILL HAPPENED THIS WEEK
As you know, we do many different types of drills throughout the school year to ensure that our staff and students know what to do if a real emergency happens. This week, we did an Intruder Lockdown Drill. In this type of drill, staff practice the steps to securing their classrooms as if there were an intruder in the building as they learned in ALICE training previously. During the lockdown, teachers discuss and practice with students, in age-appropriate ways, what their role would be in case of that type of emergency. We were able to completely lockdown the building in less than one minute! All rooms were then checked to see if an administrator could enter, and no room was able to be breached as we are using a technique to help secure locked doors using a portion of a fire hose.

THIRD GRADERS TO TAKE PRACTICE STATE TEST
All third graders in Delaware will be taking a practice ELA state test in the month of February. This is to make sure that they have exposure to the testing platform and environment before our actual state testing in April and May. Our third graders will do this test on February 13. Please make sure your child is present and on time for school that day. Thank you!
WILBUR INSPIRED FAMILY EVENT!
Time for some fun.....Wilbur Inspired Families has set up an opportunity for interested Wilbur families to meet up at Urban Air for a fun night at their Christiana Mall location. Urban Air will donate 20% of the proceeds back to Wilbur Elementary to help support our end of year field days. See details below!
SNOW, SNOW AND MORE SNOW!
Although we haven't had snow days in several years, last week brought several! Some of you have asked if we have additional days, would there be online learning. Although that decision hasn't yet been finalized at the district level, I ask that all families be prepared in case we have additional inclement weather days that there is the possibility of an asynchronous day with online learning. If this happens, teachers will communicate specific details about assignments, times that they are available for 'office hours' for students needing assistance, and other information. The reason that this would need to happen is because we only have 4 or so 'banked' snow days in our schedule, and we want to avoid having to extend the end of the school year farther into June.
SPIRIT WEAR OPTIONS!
We have a few vendors that are willing to work with us to provide different spirit wear options! In the coming weeks, I'll add in links to the websites where you can take a look at different shirts, hats, and other accessories with our Wilbur logo.

WILBUR NEEDS A SECURE ENTRANCE!
Mark your calendar….February 29, 2024 is a big date in Colonial Nation!!
On February 29, 2024 we will need your support to get out and vote to improve our facilities and maintain the quality of our programs and services…our students deserve it! There are several projects that will enhance our facility when this referendum passes. The most important one of these, in my eyes, is the creation of a secure vestibule and lobby area for Wilbur Elementary! As most of you know, for security and safety reasons, visitors must wait outside when coming to Wilbur. A secure vestibule would mean that families would be able to enter the building and wait in a lobby area that does not have immediate access to the rest of the building; thereby keeping our school secure while still providing a warm, dry area for families to wait. We expect to be able to share drawings of what this would be like in the coming month or so!
For the most current information about the referendum, check out the district website at:

CHORES....WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT?

CAR LINE PARENTS
Please ensure that anyone dropping off or picking up in our car line know the process and procedures so that we can keep things moving quickly for the rest of our families. All cars must pull up as far as they can in our active car line area so that we can fit as many cars as possible to unload at the same time. With this in place, our car line is able to be done within 10 to 15 minutes in total. Every car that stops short puts all other families in a worse position to get to work on time so please communicate with all pick up people. Thanks!!
YEARBOOK PRE-ORDERS ARE NOW OPEN!
