Attendance Matters!
What to do if your student is absent
As we move through the school year, Bonney Lake Elementary continues to prioritize high levels of attendance for all students. Although students may miss school for a variety of reasons, it is important to excuse all absences when possible.
If your student is absent, please call the front office at 253-891-4450, or send an email to our Building Secretary at melissa_davidson@sumnersd.org. Make sure to include the reason for your student's absence so we may code it correctly.
If your student has an upcoming extended absence (3 or more days), please reach out to us for a Pre-Arranged Absence Form. This form must be submitted in advance.
Attendance by the Numbers
The Sumner Bonney Lake School District has an attendance goal of 90%. This goal is reached if a student misses fewer than 9.99% of total school days.
64.7% of our students have Good Attendance through the end of December. This means 286 BLE students missed fewer than 9.99% of the total school days through December 16, 2022.
Average daily attendance for January 2023 (through January 20, 2023): 93%
This number is amazing! We appreciate you prioritizing your student's attendance in the new year, and we look forward to seeing all of their smiling faces each and every day. Awesome job Vikings!
Celebrating Attendance
Students who reach our 90% attendance goal are recognized in their classroom and receive a Certificate of Achievement.
Students who have improved attendance throughout the year, but may not have reached our 90% goal will also receive a Certificate of Achievement. Keep an eye out for these certificates starting in February!
2023-2024 Waiver Reminder
December 15, 2022 - January 27, 2023
All waiver applications must be submitted during this timeframe for consideration.
Intra-District Waiver:
- Resident students who wish to attend a school other than their resident school must complete the Intra-District (in-district) Waiver Application.
- Intra-district waiver students need to remain in good standing and continually meet the criteria listed on the waiver application. If these areas become a concern, the student will be placed on probationary status and given an opportunity to improve. Lack of improvement in the areas of concern could result in the student's waiver being revoked at any time, requiring the student to return to their resident school.
Inter-District Waiver:
- For students residing outside the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District Attendance Boundaries, an Inter-District (out-of-district) Waiver Application is required. Additionally, a Choice Transfer Request (Release of Attendance Form) from the resident district is also required to be submitted to the resident school district electronically in conjunction with the Inter-District Waiver Application to be eligible for consideration.
*Out-of-District Waiver Applications are required each year for continued attendance.
- Students need to remain in good standing and continually meet the criteria listed on the waiver application. If these areas become a concern, the student will be placed on probationary status and given an opportunity to improve. Lack of improvement in the areas of concern could result in the student's waiver being revoked at any time, requiring the student to return to their resident school.
Transportation:
- Students attending a school on a waiver do not receive district transportation to and from school or after school activities.
A Note from the Health Room
The health room is in need of clothing donations. Donations must be clean and in new or gently used condition.
We are in need of the following:
Pants- size 6 and up
Underwear- size 6 and up
If your student is sent home with a change of clothes, please return the laundered clothing as soon as possible. It is also helpful to have your student keep a change of clothes in their backpack in case of rainy days at recess or accidents.
If you have any questions, I am happy to answer them for you. You can reach me at (253) 891-4458. If I am with a student and do not answer, please leave a message, and I will call you back.
