The CDW Staff wishes you a fun-filled Spring Recess doing what you enjoy. The Spring Recess provides staff and students with a much-needed mental decompression, so they can return refreshed and ready to conquer the rest of the school year.

Thank you to all of the students and staff that participated in Neon Day!

The Grade 6 students had their final visit from the NVOT Heroes and Cool Kids Club. The lesson was to help the CDW students with the peer pressure challenge of, "Everybody is doing it." The NVOT students provided strategies for students to use when they are put in these types of situation.

Thank you to the NVOT students and Mrs. MacRae for providing such important lessons throughout the year.

During STEM class this week, Grade 5 students had to make the tallest tower they could! The students showed impressive creativity and teamwork!

The Teen Arts Festival is May 19th, and Ms. Watters is accepting original 2-D artworks to display at the festival. Ten artworks will be chosen to display. Grade 7 and 8 students who are interested can submit their artwork to Ms. Watters no later than May 9th!

Ms. DiPisa will be hosting the Annual School Library Month Bookmark Contest again this year! The bookmark submissions are due Wednesday, April 19th. If your child would like to participate, he/she can see Ms. DiPisa in the Media Center. Winners from each grade level will be announced Wednesday April 26th!

We have been collecting plastic film in the containers outside of CDW until today, April 6th. Our CDW students in the Environmental Justice class will retrieve the last of the collection bags, weigh the contents, and track our final collections. We currently have over 1,200 lbs of plastic!

Each spring, the state of New Jersey administers the NJSLA to all students in grades 3-8. The CDW students will participate as follows:

Grades 5 and 8

• Students in grades 5 and 8 will participate in the NJSLA for Language Arts, Math, and Science between May 8th and May 18th.

Grades 6 and 7

• Students in grades 6 and 7 will participate in the NJSLA for Language Arts and Math between May 8th and May 12th.

All students in grades 5-8 will need headphones or earbuds, which cannot be wireless, for these assessments. If your child does not have a pair of headphones or earbuds at school, please send in a pair from home.

The only electronic device students are permitted to use during NJSLA is their school-issued Chromebook. If your child has a cell phone, smartwatch, or any other electronic device, it will need to be turned off and in his/her locker during the testing sessions.

Reminders and Updates from CDW's Student Manager

On Tuesday April 18th, the CDW Track season will begin. Practices will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:10 PM until approximately 4:30 PM. A finalized schedule of the meets will be sent out next week. Every child that signs up will run in all meets. There are no cuts. Please make sure that all physicals are up to date.

In July, we will host another Summer-Skill Booster Program for students currently enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Please see the flyer below for specific information.

All baseball players, ages 7-14, are welcome to attend the Golden Knights Baseball Camp at NVOT. Please see the flyer below for more information and the attached registration form.

All softball players in grades 3-8, first time, as well as experienced players, are welcome to attend the Golden Knights Softball Camp at NVOT. Please see the flyer below for more information and the attached registration form.

Hi CDW Parents,

The CDW International Food Festival is back! The Food Festival is a highlight of the year and we hope this year will be no exception! As in past years, we provide a food item (lunch or dessert category) from your country to share with the students and teachers at CDW. Past participating countries included Armenia, China, Cuba, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, Montenegro, Poland, Spain, Mexico and USA. Spread the word and if you know someone who is interested, please let me know.

The date has been set for Wednesday, May 3rd, in the CDW Rossi Gym. We will be serving BOTH lunch periods, so from 11:00 AM(set-up) to 12:45 PM(clean-up) serving approximately 400 students and staff.

This is a PTO sponsored event, so we will be able to reimburse part or all of your food expense, but there are ways to cut down either by reducing the choices of food offered, home cooking part or all, or maybe donating a portion.

The purpose of the Women's Equality Day Art Exhibit is to recognize the artistic achievement of students and to increase their awareness of the importance of the equality of women. The Art Exhibit is open to students in Grades K-8 in Bergen County. Entries are due by Friday, April 28, 2023 between 9:00 AM-4:00 PM.

Art will be displayed virtually on the County's social media platforms on August 26, 2023. An in-person ceremony will be held later in September to announce the Grand Prize winners. Please see the flyer below or the attachment for more information.

Membership in the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) at Charles DeWolf Middle School is open to any seventh grade student who meets all the membership requirements at the end of the third marking period in 2023.

During the week of April 24, 2023, eligible students will be identified and invited to apply

for admission to the NJHS by email. An email will also be sent to parents of eligible

students. The induction ceremony will be held during the week of May 15, 2023 (subject to

change).

It is important to remember that our school is full of staff members who are here to help you and your child(ren) all year long. In some cases, you may not be sure whom to contact for specific information. For questions about your child(ren)'s classes, please utilize the teacher as a primary resource before implementing the flow chart.
