Culture Day

We will have Valerius Culture Day on Friday, May 5th. This day is to celebrate and recognize the many cultures that are represented across our community. Our school alone has many students who speak over a dozen different languages!

All students will experience four interactive sessions with cultural ambassadors from other countries. Please refer to this link HERE if you would like to see your child’s schedule. The description of the specific events being offered by our presenters can be found HERE.

This day also provides a wonderful opportunity for our Valerius students to connect to their own global roots and share some of their culture with classmates. Students are welcome to dress in clothing representative of their own culture if they so choose (optional).

Last Day of School PTO Picnic

Come CELEBRATE the last day of school with your student(s)! Families are invited to join their students for a picnic style lunch during the student's lunch time on the Last Day of School, June 1st! You are welcome to bring food for you and/or your child or just come sit with your child while they eat their lunch. ALL students will sign up for either a School Sack lunch or a Home lunch.

The Picnic Student Lunch Form will come home this week. The bottom portion needs to be returned to your students teacher by next Wednesday (5/10).

Safety City - Incoming Kinder Students

Safety City is a week-long summer program for children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2023. Children will learn about traffic safety, fire safety, home, playground and other kinds of personal safety in an entertaining, positive environment. Register HERE.

23-24 Online Registration

Families with students in kindergarten through 11th grade currently enrolled in the district will receive an email between May 1 – May 14, 2023, with instructions for online registration.

23-24 Bus Form

To be on a bus route for the first day of school, UCSD needs to receive your completed bus request form no later than August 1st.

Uplifting Urbandale

The Urbandale High School Key Club is sponsoring a community blood drive with the American Red Cross. Students from Key Club, Leo Club, National Honor Society, CORE, and the UHS Student Senate are volunteering their time to help with the blood drive and it is open to anyone in the community.

Teacher Appreciation Week - Volunteers Still Needed for Recess Coverage!

Help the Valerius PTO show our gratitude to our amazing teachers and staff! Throughout the week of May 1-5, we will be providing meals, covering recess to give teachers a little breather, and stocking their lounge with snacks and supplies. We'll also be providing flowers so each student can give one to their chosen staff member. Sign Up HERE to help by volunteering, donating items, or making a monetary contribution!

23-24 Valerius PTO

The Valerius PTO is planning for the 23/24 school year and we need your help. Our PTO board will have several openings next year as we join with Karen Acres. The board meets approximately every other month with a majority of business happening through email. Meetings are typically an hour or 90 minutes long.

The PTO is responsible for fundraising and planning many events throughout the school year that directly benefit our kids and teachers! But that’s not the only reason to become involved with the PTO. The relationships and insight that you will gain with other parents and teachers is amazing and totally worth the time.

There are several positions available, finding one to fit your schedule and passion is possible. We have several officer positions, Co-Pres, Co-Secretary, Co-Treasurer, as well as the Member at Large position. The M.A.L. position is a great way to dip your foot in as there are NO expectations beyond attending meetings and helping when you can. It is a great way to ease into the PTO and we would LOVE to see several new faces fill this role.

Valerius Field Day Save the Date

Field Day will take place at Valerius on May 24th. The event will run a bit differently this year with having a morning session and an afternoon session. This will help increase student participation. The morning session will run from 10:00-11:30am for Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. The afternoon session will run from 1:30-3:00pm for 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade. A cool treat for everyone will take place from 3:00-3:30pm. *There won't be a need for volunteers this year. Families are still welcome to watch their student participate.

More information will be coming soon but make sure to upload the Valerius Family Events & Activities Calendar (Google or iCal) to stay up today with all the end of year activities that take place in May!

JHawks On The Way Registration

It is time for 5th grade students to register for J-Hawk On The Way. The flyer linked below has a QR code with two links attached to it, one is JOW registration and one is the medical form. We need all 5th grade students that are wanting to attend JHawk on the Way to fill out both forms.

When registering families will need to select the day their student would be available to attend. Communication will be sent when the final schedule is confirmed. Each student will be receiving a FREE T-shirt the day of the event and FREE breakfast & lunch! Most importantly Jhawks on the Way will be FREE this year and will be held at UMS all day 8am-3:15pm!
