Academy Learning Experiences:
Building a Collaborative Teaching Team
In this module, Collaborative-Teaching teams will discuss why collaborative teaching is valuable and their vision for inclusive education in their shared learning environment. Teams will begin to build their vision by establishing a shared commitment and setting the norms for their mutual collaborative team. They will learn strategies to build a strong collaborative team, effectively working through conflict, and learn how to interact and communicate constructively.
Inclusive Practices: Collaborative and Co-Planning
In this module, teachers will build foundational knowledge for the different approaches to Collaborative-Teaching in a shared teaching environment. This training will foster a shift in teaching culture from ‘My’ students to ‘Our’ students by showing teams how to easily implement teaching strategies that will appear seamless and effortless by students. Co-planning will continue to be an important component to this learning module.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
In this module, Inclusive teams will learn to be proactive and anticipate student needs by creating lessons and a rich learning environment that is designed around the needs of all students, not just those with identified needs.
RtI/MTSS and Inclusive Classrooms
Collaborative teams will continue to learn how to efficiently plan to meet the needs of students performing at different levels that will allow for differentiated learning as well as differentiated assessments. Educators will walk away with ideas and examples on how to achieve focused learning over focused teaching.
Specially Designed Instruction
In this 5th module of learning, teams will learn how to shift from a traditional model of meeting the needs of a few (with IEPs) to a culture of shared ownership to meet the needs of each student with varying degrees of ability.
Vision & Application
In this final learning module, teams will present an example of how they applied what they learned in this Inclusive Practices Academy. At the end of their presentation, participants will revisit their commitments and set goals for how they will continue to implement collaborative teaching in their classroom moving forward.
