Friday Flyer
October 14, 2022
Dear Families,
We had another great-but-shortened week, including outdoor and indoor Fire Prevention assemblies for all ages, courtesy of our Pocantico Hills Fire Department. We also enjoyed an amazing Harvest Soup made with the bounty from our garden along with some special added touches from our kitchen. As we look ahead to next week, we’re finally back to having full weeks of school, which is always appreciated given how much we have to teach the kids – and we’re already halfway through the first quarter! Next week is also Digital Citizenship Week, and Ms. Papa will be exploring this topic during her library classes.
Speaking of report cards, we’ll be holding virtual parent/teacher conferences during the second week of November, so be on the lookout for a link to sign up in a future Friday Flyer as the time approaches. Also, middle school parents should log into the parent portal to see their children’s current grades and assignments. We had all the children log into their student portal while at school this week, so they have access as well.
While tomorrow marks the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, that in no way means we stop celebrating our Hispanic families’ heritages! We believe in celebrating our cultural diversity throughout the entire year, regardless of what recognition month it is.
BUS ARRIVAL READINESS
Our bus routes to school are running very smoothly and on schedule right now – and you having your child/ren outside at your bus stop and ready to board when the bus pulls up is critical to this success. As the weather begins to get colder, it is always tempting to stay inside for as long as possible, but we really need to make sure everyone is outside before the bus shows up. Thank you!
FOUNDATION SWAN LAKE WALK FUNDRAISER
Our Pocantico School Foundation is raising funds for mental health programs and ongoing community outreach programs at Pocantico Hills School. You can make a pledge online in honor of your student, or checks can be made to: Pocantico Hills School Foundation. Students and staff will walk around Swan Lake while learning about the ecology of the Rockefeller State Park Preserve. Date TBD depending on weather!

The PTA Halloween Monster Bash is back! The party will be held on Friday, October 28th, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm in the school gymnasium, with “low sensory time” being from 5:30 – 6:00 pm. On top of all that, there will be a bake sale fundraiser, a 50/50 raffle, and more. Cost is $5/person or $20/family of 4+. Volunteers are needed! Could you help make this party a success? Contribute desserts? Volunteer at a table? Learn more or sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090548aeaf2da3fd0-ptahalloween
Thank you!
PICTURE DAY PHOTOS & RETAKE DAY
You should have received an email this week from Irving Simon with a link to access and order copies of your child’s photo from Picture Day. Did your child miss Picture Day or is the photo flawed? Not to worry. Retakes are scheduled during the school day of November 4 (please ignore the calendar’s reference to October 19). Plus, you also have an additional opportunity to return to school with your children in the late afternoon/early evening for SIBLING or FAMILY PHOTOS. More information to come.
