Message from Mr. Kingery
Dear Art Rutkin Families,
We have had a great week of school after the freezing rain, snow and ice kept us away from school last week. We know that many families endured challenges with losing power, frozen pipes and safety while traveling away from home. We hope that everyone is well and able to be in regular weekly routines again. Here is important information regarding the end of the quarter and time to meet with me during our first “Coffee with the Principal on Monday, Jan. 29th at 8:15 AM in the school library.
Coffee with the Principal - Monday, Jan. 29th at 8:15 in the school library
Please join me, Mr. Kingery, for coffee with the principal this coming Monday, Jan. 29th at 8:15 AM. The main purpose for this time will be to have discussion and record parent input for the current draft of a new TTSD School Board policy. The policy is titled Student Acts of Aggression and Violence. There are four sections to the policy and I will collect parent input for each section. There will also be time for open questions and time to share about your thoughts now that we are finishing up the second quarter of the school year.
End of the Second Quarter - Feb. 1st.
We will be halfway through the school year at the end of next week. This means that there will be a teacher work day on Feb. 2nd. This will be a no school day for students next Friday while teachers complete report cards. Please contact your child’s teacher for any questions after you review the report card that will be available during the week of Feb. 5-9.
Art Rutkin PE - report cards
Please remember to send your child to school wearing shoes with laces, or that are secure on their feet each day of school. Crocs and sandals, dress shoes and boots and similar footwear do not allow for the physical activity students experience in PE and on the playground each day. Shoes that are not secure on feet can also be a safety concern while students are active in PE and on the playground. We want everyone to fully participate and enjoy safe times in the gym and on the playground every day. Non marking soles are also best to help keep our gym floor in good condition.
PE grades - We have been working with substitute teachers in PE since Nov. 27th as everyone is aware. There will not be PE grades reflected on the 2nd quarter report card due to this situation. We will inform everyone as soon as we are able to return to consistency regarding PE classes. I appreciate the feedback and input from everyone who has contacted me regarding PE at Art Rutkin.
We wish you all well during this time of year and look forward to continuing this amazing first year at Art Rutin Elementary into the 3rd quarter starting soon.
With Gratitude,
Mr. Kingery
Message from Mrs. Biggs
Hello, my name is Aimee Biggs and I am the Dean of Students and Student Support Specialist at Art Rutkin. Many of you see me during arrival and dismissal, but I wanted to take a moment to formally introduce myself and let you know what else I do to support our amazing community.
School wide - Climate and Culture support and development, PBIS (positive behavioral interventions and supports), school wide behavior expectations (teaching, reteaching, celebrating), assembly planning and facilitation
Classroom - SEL lessons, positive classroom community supports (PAX), instructional coaching
Individual - SEL skills, problem solving, regulation support and interventions
The best part of my role is the amount of time I get to spend interacting and connecting with our students. They are truly an amazing group of kids! Please reach out if you have any questions - I would love to connect! abiggs@ttsd.k12.or.us 503.431.3517
Medication Reminders
As we enter the cold and flu season, if your student needs any medication throughout the day please bring it to the office and fill out a medication form. This includes over the counter items such as cough drops.

Immunization Information
IS YOUR STUDENT UP TO DATE WITH THEIR IMMUNIZATIONS?
OREGON'S IMMUNIZATION EXCLUSION DAY IS FEBRUARY 21, 2024.
Each year in January and February, all schools and childcare facilities in Oregon must
report the immunization status of their students to the Health Department. Is your student up to date with their immunizations? Oregon's immunization exclusion day is February 21, 2024.
Immunizations are required by state law for children and students in attendance at public and private schools, preschools, childcare facilities and Head Start programs in Oregon. Children must have all state required immunizations, or a medical or a non-medical exemption to stay enrolled. If a child is behind on shots, TTSD schools will send the family a letter via postal mail so they have a chance to catch up before the immunization deadline. Failure to meet Oregon’s requirements by February 21, 2024 will result in students being excluded from school until their immunizations are up-to-date.
