Celebrating School Nurses
PSD recognized our school nurses and health aides for making a difference in the lives of children every day. Our selfless, caring team of school nurses has helped the district navigate through what has undoubtedly been two of the most challenging school years ever. Their steady presence and patience have been truly inspiring.
2022-2023 Middle School Schedule Recommendation
Jennifer Kindle, PSD Executive Director of Secondary Education, presented the new middle school schedule recommendation. A committee recommended returning to a quarter schedule instead of a trimester schedule after reviewing research, determining priorities, scoring schedules, and analyzing data.
The next steps of the process include:
- Engaging in bargaining with Pasco Association of Educators (PAE).
- Continuing to answer questions and provide information to staff.
- Preparing for building the master schedule and communicating with students and families.
Superintendent’s Student Action Council Update
Students from the Superintendent's Student Action Council provided an update from the Student Action Council meeting they attended on May 11, 2022. They updated the Board on their Having One Person for Everyone (H.O.P.E.) initiative and how the work will continue after they graduate.
High School and Beyond Planning (College and Career Readiness)
Jennifer Kindle, PSD Executive Director of Secondary Education, presented an overview and update regarding the High School and Beyond (College and Career Readiness) Plan. Mrs. Kindle informed the Board that a committee, made up of middle and high school counselors, teachers, and administration, was formed in 2021-2022 to update the framework for the Plan.
The committee is now implementing the framework in sixth through twelfth grades, exploring ways to increase parent involvement, developing a scope and sequence for delivering the curriculum with fidelity, and planning for expansion of college and career readiness in kindergarten through fifth grade during the 2022-2023 school year.
Open Public Meetings Act Update
Sarah Thornton, PSD Assistant Superintendent of Legal Services, provided the Board with an update regarding changes to the Open Public Meetings Act that were approved during the 2022 legislative session. Effective June 1, emergency orders related to open public meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic will end. Other changes to requirements will become effective on June 1 and 9.
