Pleasant Knoll Middle School
Message from Mr. Young
As the holiday season approaches and we reflect on the many things we are thankful for, I want to take this opportunity to share a few with you...
1. We are thankful for our wonderful students that come to school each day ready to learn, with a positive attitude! They are why we are here and help us realize the importance of what we do.
2. We are thankful for our awesome faculty and staff. They put children first everyday and sacrifice so much for the good of our students and school.
3. We are thankful for our parents and community. Our parents share their most precious gifts with us each day and we appreciate the trust that is given to be a partner in their child's education.
4. We are thankful for our PTO, SIC, and the countless volunteers that help us each day be better than we were the day before.
I would like to wish all of our Knighthawk families and wonderful and safe Thanksgiving! I hope all of you enjoy the break with your friends and family!
Grey Young, Principal

Notes from the Nurse
Eating breakfast is an important part of powering-up your body for the day, yet an estimated 40% of students do not eat breakfast at all. Eating a balanced breakfast can help keep you alert, improve mood, and reduce mid-morning food cravings. A healthy breakfast does not have to take a lot of time.
The following are reasons you should make breakfast a part of your day:
▪ The State of Minnesota Breakfast study showed that students who ate breakfast before school had a general increase in math and reading scores, increased student attention, and improved student behaviors.
▪ They more often met their daily nutritional needs, kept their weight under control, had lower cholesterol, attended school more frequently, and made fewer trips to the nurse’s office complaining of tummy aches.
▪ Children who skip meals are not likely to make up for the missed nutrition at other meals. Children who are hungry can be apathetic, disinterested, and irritable when confronted with a difficult task.
The evidence is clear that eating breakfast at home or school - whether it is pancakes, cereal, fruit, or a peanut butter sandwich - leads to better health, learning, and behavior and are all keys to success at school. Don’t have time to eat breakfast at home? Keep whole-grain mini bagels on hand or muffins, nuts, dried and fresh fruits that can be taken in the car. (Apple slices and bananas are also easy and not too messy!)
