Rāmere Friday 2nd of Hongongoi July (Term 2: Week 9 of 10)
Our Tumuaki Principal
Kia ora koutou.
From the Principal's desk:
It's been a big week this week at school with a whole lot happening across all parts of the school.
- Jump Jam Competition: Last Saturday three teams from our school headed to Invercargill to take part in the Jump Jam competition. Thank you to Mrs Coyle, Miss McVicar, Miss Mineur, Mrs McKelvie, Mrs Blackmore for all the work that you put in with the children to coaching and supporting them.
- Poetry Anthology Book: It was rather exciting to have the package arrive with our bespoke Winter Poetry Anthology 2021 book in it. The work of the children, staff and friends of the school looks very professional in print. We've sold over 20 which is really cool. We do have a few spare copies for you to purchase at $40. It is a real keepsake for children. Who knows, we may well be launching their writing or illustrating career.
- Interviews: Thank you for coming in for the mid-year interviews. The teachers and I appreciated the time commitment you made to being part of these. It is a vital part of a child's education to have parents informed and involved in a positive and meaningful way. Together, children learn and grow.
- Student Council - Edendale's Got Talent: Thank you to the Student Council for their work with this year's Edendale's Got Talent. It was great to see their performances on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We had magicians, singers, dancers, puppeteers and musicians. Thank you to Mrs Jenny Coyle for her mentorship of our Student Council.
- Senior Veranda Windbreak: This week our senior verandah windbreak was put up. It is a great addition to the senior block. It further adds to the area along the front making it a great place for children to work during class time and eat during break times.
Thank Yous - Team Edendale
- Tracey Lockhart: Tracey wears many hats in our school. She is a teacher aide across our classrooms supporting programmes and children to assist with their learning. She is our cleaner keeping our school spick and span each day. She manages our boiler keeping us all warm on the cold winter's days. She also is our BOT minutes secretary ensuring that all the BOT material is managed for the BOT. Thanks Tracey for all your work.

Strategic Planning - 2022 and Beyond
Next week the Board of Trustees (BOT) joins together to begin the process of thinking into and building the school of the future.
As part of this, they are reading parent, staff and student feedback. These deliberations and discussions form the Strategic Plan for 2022 - 2025. Once that is complete the 2022 Annual Plan falls into place and then from there the budget.
It is hoped that all this is completed by the final meeting of the BOT in December so that the school has a clear pathway forward for the coming years.
Out of Zone Enrolments - Term Two and Term Three
Enrolment at Edendale Primary School is governed by an enrolment scheme.
The Board has 20 places available for out of zone students for the 2021 school year. The exact number of places is subject to the number of eligible in-zone enrolments received.
We have two advertised enrolment periods.
The second half of Term Two 2021 from June 9th to July 9th 2021: Out of zone students seeking enrolment within this enrolment period, the deadline for receipt of applications is Monday 28th June.
Term Three Monday 26th July to Friday 1st October: Out of zone students seeking enrolment within this enrolment period, the deadline for receipt of applications is Monday 26th July.
Information and application forms can be picked up at the school office and are also available on our website www.edendaleps.school.nz.
If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot for out of zone places is required, it will be held on the following Monday from the deadline dates.
Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot as early as possible (and within three school days of the ballot being held).

Lost Property - Term Two
With the end of Term Two fast approaching, we have a collection property that we'd love to get back to their homes.
Check out our lost property rack in the staffroom foyer. There are also two photos on Facebook to give you an idea of what we've found.
At the end of the term, all unnamed uniform items will be washed and added to our second-hand uniform supplies.
Menzies Lunches will finish this term with the last order being this Thursday the 8th of July.
Further, as Menzies Canteen winds down their supplies there will be fewer options available. We will give you an update as it comes to hand. Currently, this includes no macaroni cheese, chicken dagwood sandwich or corned beef sandwich.
Senior Ski Trip - Friday
Our ski trip for senior children is heading up to the Remarkables on Friday.
A big thank you to Laura McVicar and Andrea Russell for all the important behind the scenes organisation for this. It is a significant undertaking to get everyone up there and back.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) - Term Two Haepapa Responsibility
When we come from so many different families our values draw us together as one big school whanau.
We show haepapa responsibility when we...
Are ready for our learning
Work right through from start to finish.
Care for people, property and places.
Look after our belongings.
Involve ourselves in our school whanau community.
Every time these are shown they make our school a great place to be for children and adults.
Term One - Manaakitanga Respect
Term Three - Tohungatanga Excellence
Term Four - Ponotanga Integrity
Principal's Values Award
This week the Principal Tumuaki would like to acknowledge Nile Walton for being a contributor of values to our school.
Writer of the Week - Avabell Mitchell
Do you have a pet? I do and it is a dog. I am going to tell you why I love my dog.
My dog is called Nala and she is an American bulldog. I like playing with her because she is really, really playful. When I have her favourite toy, that looks like a cat, Nala likes to grab it and chew it.
The second reason I love my dog is because sometimes I wake up with her on my bed. Sometimes she licks me to wake me up and she wants to get under my blankets!
Sometimes me and Nala play tag. Nala tags me with her tail. When she gets me she runs away and when I tag her I run away.
Nala is my favourite dog.
If you don’t have a dog, you should get one because you could teach it to play hide and seek and you could teach it to play tag too.
