It is hard to believe we are in the last two weeks of school! How time has flown!! This month in library we've been busy learning about some favorite authors and reading some classic, funny, and wonderful stories and chapter books. Read on for some information about the authors and books we've been enjoying plus a very important announcement about summer reading. I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing, fun and sun-filled summer!! I look forward to seeing all of my amazing students again in September!

Grace Lin

Third grade students have been enjoying Grace Lin's chapter book "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon". Grace also writes and illustrates picture books for younger students. Check out her website for more info, including some great videos of her reading her own books!

Mo Willems

First Grade students have been enjoying Mo's "Knuffle Bunny" books. Mo continues to be one of our favorite authors of all time, and no wonder, he is prolific and funny, and kids really "get" his sense of humor. His website is full of fun stuff - check it out!

Jan Thomas

Author and illustrator Jan Thomas never fails to get us up and moving, dancing, jumping, and making scary faces! That's why kindergarten students love her books so much! Check out her website for some great printable activities! And if you noticed your kindergartener doing the chicken dance recently . . . well, you can blame me and Jan!

Ross Burach

Brooklyn author and illustrator Ross Burach loves using his art for humor, and writing funny children's books is how he makes us laugh! Though his website doesn't have much information, you can search his name on YouTube and find a ton of great videos of his read-alouds! We really liked Storytime with Ryan and Craig's version of "Truck Full of Ducks"!

Candace Fleming

Candace Fleming is a versatile author of many children's books - everything from picture books to biographies to novels to historical fiction. First Grade students loved the funny and sweet "Muncha Muncha Muncha" and "Tippy Tippy Splash", while the third graders got a kick out of her account of Thomas Jefferson's Mammoth Cheese.

Trinka Hakes Noble

We were delighted to have New Jersey author Trinka Hakes Noble visit us in person last year, and we continue to enjoy her wonderful books. This week we are focusing on some summer-inspired books: "The Legend of Sea Glass", "The Legend of the Cape May Diamond", and "Lizzie's Last Day of School".

Summer Reading is Important!!

The summer slide is real! Don't let your children lose the valuable learning of the past year! What happens when kids don't read over the summer? Check out these statistics from BookSource:


Students who read during the summer gain an average of 1 month of reading proficiency. Students who don’t read lose an average of 2-3 months proficiency and over time, those lost months add up to years. By high school, 2/3 of the reading achievement gap can be attributed to summer learning loss during the elementary years.


Prevent the summer slide by making reading fun this summer! Sign up for the South Brunswick Public Library's Summer Reading Program, as well as other programs available locally and online. Don't have easy access to books at home? There are many great free options for accessing ebooks through the Public Library and our ebook platform, MackinVia.

Library Book Roundup: Last Call!

Thank you to everyone who returned their library books so far! We still have many more to go! If you received an email with your students' outstanding books, please make every effort to locate and return them so our students can enjoy reading them again next year!


How to return library books:


  • In-person students can return their books at school.
  • Remote students can use the library book drop box which will be placed in front of the main entrance every school day between 3:00 and 6:30 pm from May 3rd - May 14.
  • Students who have moved on to Crossroads Middle School may drop off Brunswick Acres books at Crossroads OR Brunswick Acres.


Thank you for helping to return our library books safely to their homes on our shelves!
