COOKIES NEEDED FOR LOHS STAFF
The LOHS staff is tremendous and the holidays are one time of the year we can let them know how thankful we are for their dedication to our kids! They work long hours…coming in early, countless evenings spent grading, assessing and compiling lesson plans. This leaves them little time to plan for the holidays with their own family, so LOHS families will be providing them with Christmas cookies!
We are requesting 2-3 dozen homemade cookies from our families that would like to donate. Please deliver them to school Dec. 18 and 19 between 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. (there will be a table at the front doors to drop off) and for allergy purposes, also bring in a copy of the recipe. The staff will get to partake in a Christmas buffet of cookies, creating a platter to take home to share with their families this season!
Please see the sign-up genius link below and thank you in advance for sharing the joy of the season with all our teachers and staff! Any questions, contact Kristi Pavelich at Kristi.Pavelich@lok12.org.

Volunteers Requested - Senior Interviews
It’s that time of year again when we ask our valued parents and community members to help our senior students with our Senior Exit Interviews. If you would like to assist in this exciting opportunity, we are asking for you to sign up via Signup genius where you will find dates and times that we need volunteers.
Thank you in advance for helping to make this graduation requirement a smooth and successful process for each student.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Tara Hall, Career Development Facilitator.
Juniors and Seniors interested in Construction Pre-Apprenticeships
The partnership between Oakland Schools, LiUNA Training of MI, Local 1076 & Oakland County MIWorks! provides a pre-apprenticeship training opportunity for students interested in the construction industry. Any current junior or senior interested in pursuing a career in this pathway can apply to the Oakland Schools Pathways to Apprenticeship Program.
At Oakland Schools we are committed to preparing students with the technical knowledge and academic skills they need to launch successful careers and transition into a successful postsecondary experience.
Juniors and Seniors, join LOHS and Oakland Schools for an informational meeting on Thursday, December 14 at 1 p.m. This will be an excused absence from class.
LOHS Diversified Curriculum
Lake Orion High School understands the importance of offering our students flexibility and choice based on their learning styles. The many scheduling options we have are intended to meet the academic needs for each student while giving them flexibility within their class requirements. Lake Orion High School offers a number of Advanced Placement classes, fully virtual, and partially online coursework, as well as the ability to attend the Oakland School Technical Campus or International Academy. These diverse curricular options give students at LOHS, not only top-notch academic experiences, but an individualized opportunity to optimize their potential.
December Service Learning Opportunities
The holidays are an important time for giving back to the LO community and helping someone in need can put things into perspective for your student. Instead of getting caught up in what items to put on a wish list or gifts to buy, they can spend some time thinking about how TO GIVE BACK to those who may be less fortunate. Helping others is the best way to spread holiday cheer and they might even adopt an “attitude of gratitude” themselves! Many of our local elementary schools are having holiday shops where our high school students would help the elementary school students pick out gifts for family members and wrap them. Another opportunity is to make homemade holiday cards that will be given to local senior centers. Card stock may be picked up in the Career Center. Packing Christmas food boxes at the CERC for the Lions Club and assisting in the large DECA competition at LOHS are some of the many ways LOHS students can give back during December.
These opportunities and many more are listed in x2VOL. If your student has not registered for their x2VOL account yet, instructions may be found on the LOHS Service Learning page at Service Learning - Lake Orion Community Schools (lakeorionschools.org).

Two proposals on the ballot: Supporting student programming and keeping our facilities up to date.
Lake Orion Community Schools has two replacement millages on the February 27, 2024 ballot. Voter approval of both replacement millages will keep tax rates at their current levels!
The first proposal is a non-homestead operating replacement millage. This millage generates funds for programs and services provided by the school district. The non-homestead millage is not levied on primary residences. It is only levied on businesses, second homes, rental property, and vacant land. The millage has been supported by LOCS voters since 1994. The State of Michigan requires this millage for LOCS to receive full student funding (foundation allowance).
The second proposal is a sinking fund replacement millage. This millage was previously approved by LOCS voters in 2016 and funds building repairs, school security, transportation and technology.
For more information on the replacement millages, visit our website.
