THE RPI PULSE
Your source for all things RPI...April 10, 2020
A quick note from the principals desk...
I hope this finds you doing well and able to enjoy time with your family. As we begin this strange time in schooling, I wanted to give you a few bullets of what to expect, etc. from all of us at RPI! Know that we miss seeing the kids so much but are going to our absolute best to continue to connect with them over the next 8 weeks. In all the meetings I've "been" in with staff, I've heard a ton of great experiences and ideas for how this will happen! As I said on Facebook last week, we really appreciate your patience and grace as we build the plane as we are flying it and know that everything won't be perfect except our effort! We expect the same of the kids.
Here are some thoughts/reminders/plans as we move forward:
Teachers are working to develop a CONTINUED LEARNING PLAN. We are building this and nothing is written in cement (more like Jello right now):
We recognize the importance of supporting students SOCIALLY and EMOTIONALLY as well as ACADEMICALLY through this. We feel we have an important role to serve our community in both of these areas and both are a priority for our work.
Your teacher teams will communicate what their plans look like for next week, know that our START date will be NO LATER THAN Tuesday, April 14.
We will not try to recreate a school day and will follow recommended guidelines for the length of TIME a middle level-aged student should spend on school work and on a screen. Plan on approximately 100 minutes per day.
You should plan to receive communication from one teacher that will include all the lessons for the week. These lessons should be self guided enough that kids can complete on their own. We will count on you to check in with them to see that they are completing their work.
Teachers will connect with students to provide additional details, answer questions, and support work. This could be through e-mail, Zoom. Google Meetings, phone calls, videos, etc. We will support students with the new tools. Remember, many are new for teachers too!
Advocates will connect with students with an IEP or 504 to create a plan for support (Contingency Learning Plan).
FOOD DISTRIBUTION is still going on each Wednesday at RPHS from 9-11:00.
Once some of the travel and distancing restrictions are lifted, we will provide times that ITEMS can be RETRIEVED FROM THE BUILDING.
The school building is closed, but school is not. Teaching. learning, and distanced human connection will go on. Among our staff, there is a sense of pride in serving our community in brand new ways during this uncertain time. Please let us know how we can support the engagement of your students during this time.
Lastly, should you lose any of the communication from staff regarding lesson plans, they will be posted here as an additional way to stay connected!
Stay healthy...drink lots of water, wash your hands, read, exercise and be a good human!
Go Rockets!

Do you need to pick up a band instrument?
We will have instruments outside at Door 5 (north side of the building facing Meijer). We will allow one person out at a time to pick up their instrument in order to uphold the social distancing guidelines.
Math Booklets...6th grade ONLY!
Books may be picked up at Door 1 (main entrance of the building). We will put books out for your student on a table so that you shouldn't have to get out of the car!
Superintendent's Live Feed
As Mr. Edwards updates and sends communication, this is the best place to find information. We will try to keep up on Facebook too!
