Taking Flight Glider Contest
The weekend of November 4th, the engineering programs from Hamilton, Basha, Casteel and Perry designed and built giant gliders for the competition. Payne Junior High And Bogle Junior High also had participating teams that were mentored by high school students. All in all, we had about 150 students competing, 19 schools, and 36 gliders from across the state.
Students used the engineering design process to create giant foam board gliders with a stuffed animal pilot. They then threw the glider off the top of a two-story parking garage competing for the furthest Flight, longest flight time, and Judges Choice/Team Spirit award. Some of the gliders had 16-foot wing spans! It was an amazing day and a great experience for all involved.
The results of contest are as follows:
Longest Flight Distance: Hamilton High School Aerospace Engineering—Cyber Glider
Longest Flight Duration: Hamilton High School Engineering Club—The Banana Crew.
Judges Choice/Team Spirit: EVIT Aviation—The Titanic.
