ConVal High School Happenings - January 22, 2021
Message From Principal McKillop
We had a seamless transition back to school this week. It was so nice to welcome students and staff into the building! Even though everyone was wearing a mask, I could certainly make out smiles on many faces. We are excited to welcome back students in the gold cohort to our building next Monday and will continue to connect and engage with our remote students.
As I mentioned last week, if you are returning to our physical campus, please make sure you are wearing your mask (covering the nose and mouth), washing your hands, and watching your distance. We will continue with temperature checks and our daily screening questions each morning. I'm proud to share that our students were very respectful of all of our protocols and procedures.
Congratulations to the 20 students who earned 29 Scholastic Art Awards! We are very proud of your efforts and distinguished accomplishments. Please see more information down below.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend!
Best,
Heather

Counseling Information
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Test
ConVal High School will be offering students (grades 10-12) the opportunity to take the ASVAB test on Tuesday, February 9th (Gold Cohort) and Tuesday, February 16th (Blue Cohort). This is an aptitude test that takes approximately 3 hours, and provides students with insight into career fields that might be a good fit based on their skills. While the test is administered by the military, students do not need to have an interest in joining the military to take it and the report that students receive can be applied broadly as students explore career interests and pathways. For students interested in the military, the military branches use these test scores to determine eligibility for various military roles and the scores students earn can be valid for up to two years if they decide to enlist. There is no cost to take the test. To sign up, please use the following form: https://forms.gle/q6yjHeWgHRv65CYq6. Sign ups are due by Monday, February 1st. More info can be found on the ASVAB website (https://www.asvabprogram.com/), check in with your counselor if you have more questions.

ATC Information
ATC Application
Is your student interested in taking part in one of the many exciting career and technical education programs offered at the Region 14 Applied Technology Center next year? It’s almost time to register! Students who are interested in registering for an ATC class should speak with their school counselors during enrollment; in addition, students should complete either the pen & paper or electronic application. The focus of enrolling students in ATC classes is to ensure the right students are enrolled in the right programs for the right reasons. Because of this, several programs require students to interview with the program instructor and/or the CTE director to discuss career path options and program requirements. Questions? Feel free to contact Mrs. Kiley.
ATC Laptop Return
Students in Computer Programming or Networking with Mr. Morris, Engineering with Ms. Fabianski, Digital Photo with Mr. Levesque, and Graphic Design with Mrs. Cahoon need to return their ATC issued laptops the week of January 25-29. All laptops should be free of stickers and should be returned in the sleeves they were issued with, along with the power cord. Any students who do not return their laptops by January 29 will be issued a bill, per the terms of the laptop contract. If there are any questions regarding this, please contact Mrs. Kiley at jkiley@conval.edu.
Bat Boys: Freshmen Evan Aho and Jackson Henley work to create miniature bats as part of their Woodworking final.
Cutting board: Junior Owen McGuire sands his cutting board as part of the manufacturing process.
Cutting board2: Sophomore James Powell works with Mr. Morris on the drill press to create a cutting board.
