Reading
Hi Reading Families,
We really enjoyed our novel study of Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. We hope your student has told you about the book! Perhaps you’ve even been talked into going to the public library to get the next book in the 5-book series!
We’ll keep this momentum going with a novella study of the short book, Resist, by Alan Gratz. We will be using all of the skills we’ve been working with all year (characterization, building background, plot diagram, building vocabulary, comprehension, making predictions, inferring, etc.).
We’ll also develop new skills such as figurative language and summarization.
We will have our first quiz for this novella on Thursday, April 3.

French
Bonjour!
In French6, students just wrote (practice grade) and spoke about what they like to eat and drink at each meal. They also just quizzed over gender memorization of the vocab and applying the article THE to each word. This is such an important concept in the Romance languages. We are next practicing vocab for ordering food at a restaurant then preparing skits as though we’re at a Parisian café! (Major assessment)
I’d love to have students meet at a French café to put their French in action! Say, Douceur de France in Roswell Saturday March 29th 10a-12p! Please let me know if your child can make it. Then, I’m headed to the 2p High School Musical play with my daughter - hope to see you there! I’ll be there Sunday at 2p, too. Best of luck to my Frenchies in the play!!
This weekend Alliance Française in Roswell is hosting a short French films showing for ages 8-12. It’s from 10:30-12:30. There will be English subtitles. The kids vote on their favorite short film which will be shown as the winner at a later date. You have to reserve a spot, but it’s free! I think I saw that it lasts 2 hours. Please let me know if you attend!
French Club is Wed Mar 26.
Parents and students, please do let me know if you ever want to meet or have any questions.

Spanish
Practice Grade – Family Tree Projects due Thursday, March 20th
Major – Tuesday, April 1st
Over the last few weeks Spanish students have developed mastery in using Spanish to describe their family members. They mastered the words for various family relations in Lingco. This week, they are applying their new words to describe members of their own family trees. The written descriptions include relationship, name, age, eye/hair color and personality, all in Spanish!
After describing their own families, next week they will be studying the Madrigal family in the Spanish version of Encanto. Listening with audio in Spanish, students will be provided extensive comprehensible input from native speakers. Their comprehension will also be enhanced by background knowledge of the family. Anytime students can experience a film in Spanish that they previously watched in their first language, listening comprehension is very high. We are pleased that our students showed mastery in applying Spanish to a family tree other than their own.
Please remind our students to practice 15 minutes a day with Lingco to nail down their Spanish vocabulary.
We appreciate your support from home, Ms. Brown and Ms. Santos
