UNITY DAY
Together We Can Create a World Without Bullying
GOALS
Students and staff come together and visually express that no child should ever experience bullying.
Students and staff understand the importance of physical and emotional health and that bullying is not accepted in our school community.
Students will discuss why and how they should and can STAND UP and SPEAK OUT against bullying.
Students and staff will pledge to honor all students and celebrate similarities and differences in our community.
Students will participate in an act of kindness and set a goal to continue to “choose kind” every day.
Unity Week will be celebrated the week of October 16th-20th.
EVENTS FOR THE WEEK
Flyer Time classes will show a video on Monday introducing Unity Week and why we celebrate it. Students will participate in a lesson on inclusion, kindness, and bullying during the Flyer Time block on Thursday. WEAR ORANGE!
Students will take the kindness pledge and sign a banner at lunch.

Talking to Children About World Events
As the world responds to the conflict in Israel and Gaza, we understand that this crisis can have an impact on our school community. These resources may be helpful if your children have questions about what they are seeing in the news. In addition, if your student needs any additional support, please reach out to your school administrators and counselors.
Supporting Youth Affected by Violence in Israel and Gaza (National Association of School Psychologists)
Explaining the News to Our Kids (Common Sense Media)
We also encourage parents to monitor student device use at home. District-issued Chromebooks and iPads have filters in place to block violent content, but adult supervision is crucial as well. As our school district remains committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment, we stand as a haven for learning and understanding, and we are dedicated to supporting our students, families and staff as they navigate the complexities of this conflict.
Veterans Appreciation Breakfast
Truman Middle School will be hosting an appreciation breakfast for Veterans and active service members on November 9, 2023 at 9:30am in the Truman Middle School Cafeteria. If you or a family member would like to be a part of this, please complete this form. Thanks!
Strategic Plan Online Survey: We Want to Hear from You!

Your thoughts and feedback play an important role in this process! The Lindbergh Strategic Plan Steering Committee will carefully review community feedback as it works to set goals that will guide decision-making over the next five years.
Please fill out this survey on or before Friday, Oct. 27, and share it with your friends, family and neighbors who live in our school district. Thank you in advance for your participation.

Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers. AND—as always—every purchase at the Fair benefits our school.
Here’s what you need to know about the big event, which will take place from October 16th – 19th at the TMS library!
Say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Book Fair online. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Every online purchase will also benefit our school.

Lindbergh Speaker Series
Gifted Association of Missouri Virtual Speaker Series: Motivation for Gifted Students 7-8 p.m., Oct. 16
Many gifted students (between 10% and 50%) are underachievers. One out of every 4 high school dropouts are identified as gifted. Why would children who possess so much potential not want to achieve that? How do we motivate these students who have shown potential to learn at high levels? We must engage their minds. Join Todd Stanley, “The Gifted Guy,” to learn about the 5 I's and how we can use these in our classrooms to engage and motivate gifted children.
