Nau mai haere mai! Welcome back to the start of another exciting term. We eagerly await our 2023 Matariki Breakfast on Monday 24th July. We appreciate your cooperation around the change of date due to the weather and staff sickness. I look forward to seeing you there and celebrating the Māori New Year as a community.

Student Attendance

Term 2 Outstanding Attendance Certificates will be handed out over the next week. Student’s whose attendance was 97% or higher for the term will receive these certificates. It is pleasing to note that 68 students will receive certificates. Another big cohort achieved 94- 96% attendance.

The table below outlines the Ministry Attendance targets for 2024 and 2026 and our Term 2 Attendance against this. It is pleasing to see that we are already meeting one of the 2024 targets.

...Laura Hogan, who has joined Team Tui and Room 13. It is wonderful to see your smiley face around the playground and we look forward to following your journey at Stanley Ave School.

Matariki is the Māori name for the cluster of stars also known as the Pleiades. It rises in midwinter and for many Māori, it heralds the start of a new year. The different names of the whetu (stars) in the Matariki group are significant to Māori, as each individual has a defined purpose and is intrinsically connected with the Māori world.

At Stanley Avenue School, our tamariki have been very busy learning all about the meaning behind our newest public holiday.

Each class has taken a different path of discovery and have wonderful artwork and creations on display.

Safe travels to Ashwanpreet Singh and his Mum, Neetu as they leave for the USA on Monday to compete in the 26th Annual World Championship of Performing Arts.

This is an amazing opportunity for someone so young, and we wish him good luck for his big performance on a world stage. We are so very proud of you Ashwan and we look forward to hearing lots of stories about your exciting adventure upon your return. Have fun and enjoy...kia ngahau me te ngahau!

We feel moving forward this is a great option and will save a lot of time issuing and collecting sports shirts.
