Stories of World War II
Mr. Maciak and Mr. Hanchett with their Stories of World War II classes attended The American Heritage Museum in Hudson, MA. They have organized visits to this museum every semester for the last five years (excepting the lockdown year during the pandemic). The American Heritage Museum showcases the war machines of the 20th century. All of the hardware are from conflicts in which America played a major part. Most of the varied machines are from the many theaters of World War II. Tanks, planes, artillery pieces, and landing craft are exhibited. There are docents and detailed plaques to explain the contributions of each machine.
The newest exhibit contains two prison cells that were taken from the Hao Lo Prison (Hanoi Hilton) in North Vietnam, and reassembled in the museum. Students were presented with prisoners' stories about the conditions and treatment in the prison. The students were very impressed with the scale and scope of the artifacts and expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to visit the facility.
Rocketry Club
Our Masco TARC (Team America Rocketry Challenge) team launched their first vehicle on Thursday from Masco.
Students in Rocketry Club who built model rockets this fall, finally got to launch their rockets on Thursday as well.
Days of Giving
With the excitement of the Holiday season upon us, so is Masco’s Days of Giving! A core value in the Peer Leading program is to create community within the school and the greater community, the Tri-Town. Beginning Monday, December 11th and ending on Friday, December 15th, we are asking students to bring in one unwrapped item or gift card for students ages 11 and up. Items can be dropped off by students outside House B and D each morning from 7:00-7:30. All items collected, through the assistance of long-time community member, Joan Murphy, will go directly to adolescents in our towns. In the spirit of giving, and coming together as a Masco community, the Peer Leaders are sure we can bring in hundreds of items to make this season merry and bright for all. If you have any questions, please reach out to Peer Leader Advisor, Michael Kelsen (mkelsen@masconomet.org).
Holocaust Exhibit
The Holocaust exhibit will be open to the public on Tuesday , December 12th and Thursday, December 15th from 2:15-3:00pm. Please use the side cafeteria door as the entrance. Students are welcome to view this exhibit during their lunches next week.
Tabelot Jewelry & World Language Dept.
The World Language Department is hosting a Tabelot Jewelry Fundraiser that will be selling Tuareg artisan handcrafted jewelry made with real silver, (92.5%) from Tabelot, Niger. The proceedings will go toward promoting the financial independence of the Tuareg community within Tabelot.
A portion of the earnings will go toward the World Language Department's cultural exchanges and events that will take place in the upcoming years. The jewelry will be sold in front of the cafeteria starting Monday, December 11th. You can also pre-order the jewelry by using the QR code google form in the informational flyer or meeting with Señora Sampietro in room H1240.
