VALUE of the MONTH: Fortitude
Principal's Message
Dear SGB Families,
SGB begins the month of November with a new value to focus on, FORTITUDE. As we continue developing our faith in our knowledge and daily practice we also continue trying to testify and speak about our faith. We have been using the questions below as springboards to begin conversations with God.
I've been trying to model this practice with our SGB students, so I frequently think about those 6 questions below whether I'm driving, in prayer or just having a moment alone. Today, while at Mass my thoughts immediately went to "Today, I am blessed with..." during the "Our Father." You see, my family always holds hands during this prayer. As I stood between my two sons and held onto both of their hands during this prayer, my eyes began to fill up. I thought about how much I missed holding my Mom's hand since she passed. I remember vividly holding her hand in the hospital and then again at home during hospice for the weeks leading up to her death. I remember her hand with age spots, wrinkles and skin very fragile during those final days. I wish I could have held her hand longer.
Then, I looked down at my children's hands. So young, but way older than they were even just a few years ago. I don't get to hold their hands as often now as they grow older. In fact, my regular dose actually comes during Mass each week. I stopped today to really reflect that in the not so distant future, they'll be holding my aging hands as our time on Earth together ends. I realized that as a child, I never appreciated holding my Mom's hand when I was younger. I really took it for granted that she would be with me forever.
As a parent, I am more aware of how fast time is going as they grow and while we will have decades more (God willing) together, it will somehow never be enough. Fortitude. Be brave, have faith to overcome obstacles.
Today I am blessed with being with my children and holding their hands, and being brave in my faith with all that this life will bring us. I am blessed with cherishing the smallest of moments today. I realize that I don't always pause to do that.
We are truly blessed.
I encourage families to pause and look for the little moments in your life.
Have a great week!
God bless,
Ms. Clarke
