Principal's Message...
Mr. Fineberg
Email for Teachers and Staff
A few parents have had trouble reaching out to teachers and myself. Please be sure to send emails to our @tustin.k12.ca.us emails. If you send a message to the @mytusd.org, it will bounce back undelivered. With our filters in place, sometimes the emails will not make it through.

K-5 Supply Pick Up
A big thank you to our families for coming in last week for our drive thru pick up of supplies. Mr. Henry braved the heat to bring you your supplies and we appreciate it. If you did not have a chance to get your supplies or noticed something is missing, they are in the K-8 Office. See Cookie to pick them up.
Message From Your PTA...
Hello Tustin Connect Families!
It was wonderful meeting most of you last night during our Back to School Night. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to briefly introduce myself, our PTA and small team!
Having a PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is so important to achieving the goals and visions of our schools and it would not be successful without the help and involvement from our families. We are a new PTA organization here at Tustin Connect and we have big goals! Like they say, Dream Big or go home…and we have big dreams for Tustin Connect and our students!
Some things we have planned for this new school year.
- 1. Family Directory – Our schools are set up as Independent Learning/Virtual schools. Because of this, having ways to connect with each other is so important to help build our community and create our bonds. The directory will be one of these valuable tools for us. If you are interested in being in the directory and receiving one, PLEASE go to Aeries and OPT-IN for the PTA communications to be added to the directory.
- Website/Facebook Group – We are in the process of building a website to help us stay connected and share information about what’s happening at our school, upcoming events, and information at our school and district levels, to name a few. If you are interested in lending a hand with this project, please reach out to Melissa Weiss at smw1196@sbcglobal.net
- Room Parent – So So So important as we need parent representatives to help coordinate any needs between our teachers/classrooms and PTA. This is also a great way for you to be involved in your child’s class! If you are interested in taking on this role or want more info, please reach out to Tara Hirose, our Volunteer Coordinator, at TaraHirose@yahoo.com
- Secretary – Do you want to get involved on an Executive level? Help make decisions for our PTA? Do you like to attend meetings and take notes? Do you have penmanship that is not so much chicken scratch OR be able to type out notes!? Do you like the secretaries in your life? Then this might be the job for you!! If interested, please reach out to me at AshleyLeBoyd@gmail for more info!
- Campus Beautification Efforts – We want to help make our schools beautiful for our students and staff! Imagine having more trees for shade and scenery, inviting sitting areas on campus, a veggie patch that is an educator in itself, beautiful murals and artworks…and so much more! This will take some time to plan and execute so now during COVID times is the perfect time to do so! If you are interested in making this happen, please reach out to me at AshleyLeBoyd@gmail.com
- JOIN PTA – Our PTA needs you! We will not be able to achieve our big goals and dreams with your help and involvement -and that is the truth! What we hope to accomplish for our children and this school will take a village and not just a few people. Please join Tustin Connect PTA today – it’s just $10/member. Here are the ways you can join:
- Check made payable to Tustin Connect PTA ($10 per member)
- Mail To: Attn. Tustin Connect PTA Membership
1151 San Juan Street, Tustin, CA 92780
If you have any questions regarding membership and to get a form to complete your info, please contact Maneesha Singh, PTA Treasurer, at Kuver73@outlook.com
Next Thursday, we will have a quick Meet and Greet event. This will give everyone a chance to meet with our Principal, staff members, and PTA in a more casual setting. You can ask any questions you may have about our schools, our programs, and our PTA.

TUSD Preschool Program Still Accepting Applications
TUSD’s Kindergarten Readiness preschool program is currently accepting applications for 2020-21 school year. Families have a choice of two preschool options.
The full-day, fee-based program is offered at Hicks Canyon and Myford Elementary schools. These preschool classes are currently open for “in-person” instruction and are open for students from 7:00 am – 4:30 pm. Cost for this program is $1050.00 per month.
Half-day classes are also available at Beswick, Estock, Heideman, Guin Foss, Heideman, Heritage, Nelson, Sycamore and Tustin Ranch. These classes are currently held virtually and will be “in-person” when the district opens all campuses. These classes are free but families must qualify for the program based on their family size and income. The Kinder Readiness office staff can assist families in determining if they qualify.
For more information, please call the Kinder Readiness office at (714) 730-7592.

Data Impressions/Microsoft: Go for Daily Engagement Incentive Program
The Tustin Unified School District (TUSD) is partnering with Data Impressions & Microsoft to highlight students who model outstanding daily engagement. Data Impressions and Microsoft have generously donated Microsoft Surface Go (or similar) devices to continue the TUSD engagement incentive program into the sixth year! One computer will be given away at the end of the school year at every school site in TUSD. All students who maintain daily engagement at TUSD’s schools will have a chance to win!
Program Details/Rules/Eligibility:
- All participants in the program must be students who attend one of TUSD’s schools in the 2020-21 school year.
- To be eligible for an entry in the lottery, a student must engage in instruction with their teachers and/or log into the necessary learning management system (ie. Schoology) on each school day throughout the year: August 13, 2020, through April 16, 2021.
- The only excused absences that will keep a student eligible for the drawing will be illness or religious-affiliated. Discipline related absences including excessive tardiness to class a suspension of any kind would disqualify a student from the drawing.
- A list of students who remain eligible for the drawing will be available at each school at the end of each quarter. A final list of eligible students will be one week prior to the drawing. It is the student’s responsibility to monitor their own eligibility and to resolve any discrepancies with the school attendance office/main office at least three days prior to the drawing.
- Drawings for the donated devices will take place at each school site beginning May 10, 2021. Each winning student will receive their device from their principal following the drawing at their school.
TUSD's School Opening & Safety Plan
The health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority as they return to school. When the new school year begins, the on-campus school will look much different than previous years due to new health and safety measures.
Tustin Unified has created a School Opening and Safety Plan that addresses how schools will meet the needs of students in the coming school year. The plan to reopen schools is based on current guidance from public health officials, state agencies, as well as your valuable input from the recent parent survey, and will be updated as the situation evolves. As a result, TUSD has put together two options that will address social-distancing requirements to keep TUSD students and staff safe while also supporting student learning.
For the 2020-21 academic year, Tustin Unified will provide families a choice of two instructional options, including the hybrid model – a blend of in-person and remote learning, and Tustin Connect (K-12) – 100% online virtual school with optional in-person instruction.
The TUSD School Opening and Safety Plan (English linked, Spanish below) covers the many procedures and protocols that are being put in place for a successful and safe reopening. The plan can also be found on the TUSD website at https://www.tustin.k12.ca.us.
