Change to 2024 Term Dates
Term 4 - 8 November 2023
Important - Change to 2024 Term Dates
In a previous newsletter we published our term dates for 2024, as negotiated with our Newlands-Paparangi schools to minimise impact on our families with students at more than one school.
These included two teacher only days that we had scheduled for the Tuesdays following the long weekends in Term 2 and Term 4.
When a school opts to have teacher only days which have not been approved by the Ministry of Education, we are required to either start the school year earlier, or finish it later, in order to be open for the required number of half days.
Just before the term break, the Ministry advised schools that they had approved two teacher only days to work on the refresh of the New Zealand Curriculum.
Fortunately our dates were in the required windows of time, so the published dates of the teacher only days will not change.
However, this now means that these are considered part of the school year and we need to adjust the start date of the year accordingly.
The Te Korowai ō Horikiwi Principals have again worked together to coordinate this with the minimum impact to families in mind.
The start date for all Newlands-Paparangi schools is now Thursday 1 February instead of Tuesday 30 January.
For Bellevue this will mean that our Meet the Team: Three Way Conferences / Community Picnic will be on Wednesday 31 January.
The Intermediate will still hold their pōwhiri for the Year 7s on the morning of Wednesday 31 January and they also plan to finish for 2024 on Tuesday 17 December.
Please note that our Meet the Team event will be scheduled for the afternoon so as not to clash with this for any families with Year 7 children who wish to attend both.
Our website PDF has been updated to reflect these changes.

Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease
We have been advised that there is Hand, Foot & Mouth disease in our community. Please see the following information from the Ministry of Health website:
Hand, Foot and Mouth disease is most common in children under 10 years of age. Symptoms include painful sores in the mouth and a rash with blisters on hands and feet, loss of appetite, sore throat and mouth and a feeling of tiredness. Mild fever is usually the first sign of the disease.
This disease appears most often in warm weather.
Treatment: The only medicine recommended for hand, foot and mouth disease is paracetamol. Make sure children drink plenty of liquids to avoid getting dehydrated.
Call Healthline 0800 611 116 if you are unsure what you should do.
Hand, foot and mouth disease is spread by coughing or sneezing, or by contact with mucus, saliva, blisters or the bowel movements of an infected person. Children are contagious for around 7–10 days and should be kept at home until the blisters have dried to avoid spreading the infection.
