Winter Clothes Needed
As the official winter season comes to a close on March 20th (even though we know in Colorado Winter lingers into May) we are still collecting donations of winter/snow clothing. We’ve already gotten a huge donation of coats and really could use some more pants and boots.
PE classes at Cimarron want to use our outdoor spaces more consistently and incorporate outdoor winter activities into our curriculum. We need to gather a class set of warm clothes and boots of various sizes that we can loan out to students that are not properly dressed for these outdoor activities. If you have some lightly used winter gear that you would like to donate, please drop them at the front office.
Upcoming CMAS Testing
Please review the CMAS state testing schedule and frequently asked questions: Cimarron CMAS Testing Schedule
Q: Why is it important that my student take the CMAS assessment?
Students have the opportunity to demonstrate their learning, prepare for future assessment formats they will encounter in high school (such as PSAT, SAT, and ACT), and contribute to our school's overall rating with the state. Each student’s data is important in order to capture the most accurate picture of our performance as a school.
Q: Does it matter if my child takes the CMAS assessment?
Yes! Your student's participation is important for a couple of reasons:
CIMS uses results from CMAS, along with other data sets, to drive instruction in our classrooms and help place students in appropriate classes based on their needs. We also use the data to determine areas of improvement as a school.
Our school receives an overall score from the state that reflects our student achievement and growth. We want to make sure that we are continuing the great programming to our students to provide the best educational opportunities as possible. This score impacts our enrollment and funding that goes directly to your students' education. Your student is part of our school community and each individual contributes to our environment.
Q: Why is CIMS focusing on CMAS participation?
Historically, CIMS has had the highest participation rate in our county for middle schools and high schools. Over 90-96% of our students take the assessment annually. If a student is not able to make the assessment date, we will try our best to not have make ups interrupt their normal school day.
Q: How can I prepare my student for these assessments?
Talk with your student about the importance of doing the best job possible. Students will encounter other standardized tests as they progress through high school so now is a great time to practice. Also, ensure your child gets plenty of sleep and eats a good breakfast on testing days. This can make a world of difference.
