Welcome to October!
As we fall into the month of October, we are so excited to bring you a roundup of all the incredible opportunities and activities that have filled our school with tons of energy and purpose. This past month has been nothing short of extraordinary, with our dedicated students, passionate faculty, and supportive community coming together to create a positive beginning of the year.
Kicking of the month are two exciting events Boosterthon Fun Run Fundraiser and Socktober. These two events provide opportunities to show support of our school and community. We NEED Your Support! Collecting pledges in support of our PTO will continue to impact our students through teacher grants. We will run on October 12. Students have opportunities to win individual and class prizes for showing their support. Our Socktober kicks too, as our student council collect socks for the homeless community. In the past three years, we have collected over 1,000 pairs of socks. Our student love in engaging in this activity to support the greater community.
We will also kick off our One Book, One School Campaign. The "One Book, One School" program is a community-based reading initiative designed to promote a culture of literacy, foster a sense of unity, and encourage meaningful discussions within a school community. The central premise of the program is for all members of a school community—students, teachers, staff, and often parents or guardians—to read and engage with the same book simultaneously. Ultimately, the "One Book, One School" program is a powerful tool for fostering a love of reading, building a sense of community, and promoting a culture of lifelong learning within an educational institution. It celebrates the transformative potential of literature and its ability to bring people together in meaningful ways. We will kick off this years book, Lemonade Wars on Thursday morning,
Our collaboration with the wider community will also continue at the end of the month as we collect food for the Cherry Creek Pantries across the district. We are asking for families to bring a donation to our Trunk or Treat event on October 27. We have a collection box across from the library if you would like to make an early donation. The list of items needed are listed on the below flyer.
We are approaching another important point in the year called October Count. During this 10-day window, the state of Colorado monitors attendance five days before and five days after Monday, October 2, 2022. Our attendance of enrolled students determines our state funding. Families, please do your part to ensure your student is at school each day, especially on Monday, October 2nd. We thank you for your support!
Fall Break is almost here. I wish you a warm time off with your student.

A Word from Our Mental Health Team!
Dear Parents,
We hope this newsletter finds you and your family in good health and high spirits. As we approach World Mental Health Day on October 10th, we would like to take this opportunity to emphasize the importance of mental well-being, especially for our elementary school children.
Why is Mental Health Important for Elementary School Children?
Just as we prioritize physical health, it is crucial to pay attention to our children's mental health. Elementary school is a time when young minds are rapidly developing, and they are often exposed to various challenges, both academic and social. By promoting mental health awareness, we can help our children build resilience, cope with stress, and develop essential life skills.
Tips for Supporting Your Child's Mental Health:
1. Open Communication: Encourage your child to express their feelings and concerns. Be a good listener and offer a safe space for them to share.
2. Healthy Lifestyle: Ensure your child gets enough sleep, eats nutritious meals, and engages in regular physical activity. These habits have a positive impact on mental well-being.
1. Limit Screen Time: Set reasonable limits on screen time, including television, video games, and social media. Encourage outdoor play and face-to-face interactions.
2. Build Resilience: Teach your child that it's okay to make mistakes and that setbacks are a part of life. Help them develop problem-solving skills and a growth mindset.
3. Emphasize Self-Care: Teach your child the importance of self-care routines, such as deep breathing exercises or mindfulness techniques, to manage stress.
4. Connect with Others: Foster healthy social connections with classmates, friends, and family. Encourage playdates and activities that promote social interaction.
Remember, together, we can create a nurturing environment that promotes the mental health and well-being of our children. If you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to our school.
Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy World Mental Health Day!
Warm regards,
Lauren Alpert (School Psychologist) and Jessica Kendall (School Social Worker)
