Just a friendly reminder... Student/Parent/ Teacher conferences begin this week. If you have not secured your conference, please contact your child's teacher. We have completed the first six weeks and our beginning of the year NWEA Map Data. Our teachers are prepared to discuss strengths, areas of opportunity, and student performance academically. We hope to see you soon!

Also, October is National Fire Prevention Month. We have several activities planned at school. Please work with your child to create or review your evacuation plans incase of an emergency at home. This is an extra safety measure that we hope that you will not need to use. But it is great to have one if needed.

Assessments:

Students will be taking their Common Assessment #1 for the year during the week of October 17th - 21st. Our campus has created the following schedule to ensure 100% of our students complete their assessments and to maximize learning time during the testing window:

Oct. 17th - ELAR/SLAR

Oct. 18th - Math

Oct. 19th - Science

Oct. 20th-21st - Make-ups

Please have your scholar at school and on time to each day to ensure that they are maximizing their learning time, mastering their skills and able to demonstrate that mastery on their Common Assessments. These assessments will provide teachers with valuable data on each student to provide individualized support to each and every student.

DeSoto ISD Student Code of Conduct

As per the DeSoto ISD Student Code of Conduct, croc-style shoes are not allowed and jeans/shorts with RIPS, TEARS, OR HOLES are not allowed to wear to school.

We are asking ALL parents to volunteer only 1 hr./month. There are several volunteer opportunities:

• In your scholars classroom
• In the halls during arrival and dismissal
• In the front office
• In the Counselors' office
• In the cafeteria during lunch
• On the playground during recess
• With PTA

• 11/2 Math Is A Big Deal

Just one hour per month allows our students to see parents present on campus and understand that we are all partnering to see our scholars succeed. This week we are focusing on How To Say It. Be a BUDDY not a BULLY!

Our student store is busy! If you have anything to donate to our store we would be extremely grateful. Party toys, candy/chocolate, fidget toys, etc. Our students are doing an excellent job adhering to the 3 R's and we want to keep rewarding them. Please see Ms. S (School Counselor) if you have anything to contribute. Thank you in advance!

This year each of our students have received a punch card to monitor and reward their excellent behavior. Each time a student fills up their punch card they get to choose a reward and level up to the next color card. Our students can receive punches in the card by all site faculty and staff. Encourage your students to be responsible for their cards and to remember the 3 R's at all times. Ready, Respectful, and Responsible.

If your scholar receives one of the above notices please sign and return it asap. You will always receive a call if your student receives a violation. Students will also have an alternative work environment until parents are able to bring appropriate clothing. If we are not able to contact parents, students will remain in the alternative work environment for the day. Please ensure that our scholars are in dress code daily. Thank you.

Join PTA today! Our membership period begins today. The PTA membership form will be sent in the Tuesday folder. The membership window will be open for two weeks. Please sign and return the membership form by September 16th. The cost of membership is $10.

PTA will sponsor a class party for the class with the largest membership. Help your scholar's class win!

Mrs. Chavez- Fields is one of our EB leads. She is dedicated to student and team success. She believes in excellence in the classroom as evidenced through high quality instruction. She serves as a model teacher for colleagues to visit to get additional support an or learn best practices. She is always willing to lend a helping hand.

Nadia García is an excellent student and eager learner. Loves to help others

She is always willing to help her teachers and her peers.

Irene was voted student of the week by her peers. Her classmates describe Irene as nice, kind, smart, thoughtful and responsible. She always goes above and beyond!
