Health & Safety
Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools
State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.
Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.
Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.
Review and Update Emergency Information
If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.
All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.
We look forward to partnering with you to make 2021-22 a safe, fun and productive school year for all of our students and families.

JV SPORTS
1/22: Eastview Boys JV Hockey Drops Close One to Wildcats
The Eastview boys JV hockey team faced crosstown rival Eagan on Saturday on the Wildcats home ice. The game was a fast-paced matchup with the Lightning playing to redeem their overtime loss to Eagan in December. Eastview was the first to score when forward Parker Cameron stuffed it in the net with 4:30 left in the first period. Linemate Luke Wasilowski had the assist and helped put Eastview ahead 1- 0. With less than two minutes left in the first, Eagan had a strong presence in the offensive zone and tipped one in off a shot to the net. This even strength goal tied the score 1 -1. The Lightning were quick to respond when forward Jaymeson Zackery blasted one by the Eagan goalie with just 9 seconds left on the clock. Zackery was unassisted and placed Eastview in a 2- 1 lead at the end of the first.
The on-ice battles continued in the second. Eastview failed to capitalize on their first power play of the game but successfully killed their first penalty late in the second. At the end of the second, the score was still 2-1 with the Lightning in the lead. Shots on goal were nearly even with 10 for Eastview and 11 for the Wildcats.
The Lightning got into penalty trouble halfway through the third period and had two players in the box. The Wildcats evened the score 2-2 during the 5 on 3 advantage. With less than five minutes left in the third, a rebound trickled in to put Eagan in the lead. Eastview was assessed their fourth penalty of the period with 1:11 left on the clock and down by one goal. The Lightning pulled their goalie, and Eagan scored on an open net goal at the buzzer and beat Eastview 4 -2.
Eastview goalie Blake Jensen made several key saves throughout the game ending the night with 3 goals against and 20 saves. The Wildcats successfully blocked several Lightning shots and held Eastview to 14 shots on goal.
1/25/22 Eastview Boys JV Hockey pulls out a clutch win vs the JV Tigers from Farmington
The Lightning hosted the Tigers at Apple Valley Sports Arena on Tuesday evening. The first period was well played by both teams with few stoppages, a lot of good skating and great up and back action. Neither team scored and the shots ended up 9-7 in favor of Eastview. Goalie Kaden Goff #1 was solid in net. No penalties were whistled on either team during the period.
Period 2 was almost a carbon copy of the first period with continued action up and down the ice surface, with good play making by both teams. Both teams had scoring opportunities, but again neither team was able to put a puck by either goalie. Again, as in the first period, no penalties were called on either team during the period. A very clean game for both teams through 2 periods. Shots were again 9-7 in favor of Eastview, with the Lightning holding a 2 period shot advantage of 18-14.
The even play continued into the third period, with the Tigers eventually gaining the better of the play aided by the first 2 penalties of the game called on the Lightning. Fortunately, Eastview was able to kill off a 5 on 3 power play during the 6th and 7th minutes of the period, but it took time for the Lightning to turn the momentum back into their favor as the period rolled on. The game looked to be headed to OT when Eastview broke the scoreless tie with just 32 seconds left in the game. With the Tiger’s goalie and a defenseman without their sticks, Caleb Nelson #20 scored a pretty goal from the left circle with assists going to Jaymenson Zachary #37 and Kevin Woehler #24. The lone goal held up for a 1-0 victory. Shots were 3-9 in favor of the Tigers in the 3rd period, resulting in a game shot total of 21-23 for the Tigers.
Lightning Goalie Kaden Goff #1 earned his 2nd shut out of the season on his way to his 6th win of the season. Eastview improves to 13-5-3 on the season. Eastview was definitely the benefactor of some puck luck as well as the Tigers hit the pipe on the lightning goal multiple times throughout the game. The Lightning drop the puck next against the Lakers of Prior Lake on Saturday January 29th at 4:00 P.M. at the Apple Valley Sports Arena.

HIGH SCHOOL RUGBY
Rugby registration is open for our Girls and Boys high school teams.
Our Varsity Boys are looking to defend their State Championship, and are ranked 31st in the Nation in pre-season rankings. Our Varsity Girls program is up and coming, and we expect to challenge at the top in Minnesota this year in building up to our 2023 Scotland Tour.
WE NEED PLAYERS. No experience is necessary. We have many holes to fill and first-year players will get significant playing/starting time. In rugby, everybody plays, everybody carries the ball, and everybody tackles. Rugby suits all body shapes and sizes, and teaches explosiveness, decision-making, and agility. Rugby is the only spring sport that teaches safe and highly effective tackling to improve HS football player performance and to help avoid injury. We are an ISD 196 club sport, meaning Varsity players may earn their letter.
Practice begins on March 6th and the season runs through the end of the school year. More information, including registration links, may be found at https://www.eaasports.org/rugby.
