Counselors' Corner
“Imperfections are not inadequacies; they are reminders that we’re all in this together.” -Brene’ Brown
This quote is one of my favorites written by an amazing social worker whose research on compassion, showing up, and vulnerability has changed the way people view human connection. In the counseling office this year we have been focused on teaching these important principles to your students. We have been reminding them that they are never alone and the things that they might often consider imperfections are the things that make them who they are.
We enjoy working with your students and think they have so much good to offer. Part of our counseling team this year are two amazing BYU-Idaho interns: Michele Harmon and Sami Perkins. They are working with several students in an individual setting to help them with academics, they meet with kids regularly to check their grades, and they have been running several groups to teach coping skills to the students.
The groups they are doing right now include: Anxiety skills group, Decision making group, and Art therapy group. Last trimester they did a Girls empowerment group, Anxiety skills group, Boys decision making group, and Girls decision making group. Next trimester they plan to do two divorce support groups, if any of your students could benefit from this group please feel free to reach out to us. Mr. Milner will be doing an "R Cubed" weights class after school starting in March. See Mr. Milner for details on how to sign up.
The counseling office is open every day during all three lunches. We have card games and board games for the students to play during that time as well.
Farnsworth Food Drive
We have been sending food home on the weekends with students who may not have enough to eat. We are looking for donations to help with this so we can continue to do it throughout the school year. Some of the popular items include: Pop tarts, Cup a noodles, Easy Mac, Granola bars, Oatmeal, canned Ravioli, canned macaroni & cheese, individual applesauce, crackers, bottled water, and any other items that students can easily snack on or make on their own. We also have a school Venmo account set up if anyone would like to donate that way instead. Our school Venmo is https://venmo.com/farnsworth-middle
If students bring in any item on the list (or something not on the list) or donate a dollar to the food drive fund, they will be given a pass to wear their hat that week on Thursday. We can’t wait to see how many students will help with this good cause.
