Newsflash 10 - Term 2
Marist School 8th July 2022
Kia ora, Ni hao, Dobar dan, Malo e leilei, Hola, Konnichiwa, Talofa, Namaste, Chão, Vannakkam, Kamusta, Hello!
Wow, what a term this has been! With managing the numbers of illnesses across the school both children and staff, I thank you for your adaptability and kindness. It has been a very challenging term. I especially want to acknowledge the hard mahi the staff have put into ensuring that teaching and learning programmes have continued with as little disruption to the children's progress and achievement as possible.
The Better Together Conversations (even with some being rescheduled) appear to have been well received and extremely well attended. It is heartening to see how home and school work closely together for all of our tamariki.
You would have received a hard colourful copy of our Property Update. I’d like to acknowledge and thank Gerard Thompson and Denise Sampson for their work on producing this update. It is exciting to see what we have achieved, albeit, during a pandemic and our plans for the next steps. I also thank the rest of the Board of Trustees, for their tireless work so far this year and their ongoing support.
Watch out over the holidays for nomination papers in the post for the upcoming Board of Trustees elections. We are looking forward to welcoming new members onto the BOT from September for the next few years especially at this time as we work on our Strategic Plan for the next 3-5 years. If you are interested in continuing to support our wonderfully diverse Catholic school community, please think about joining us.
I hope you are able to take some quality time with your whānau during the school holidays. If you are travelling, please do so safely and to everyone, stay well. We look forward to an exciting, jam packed Term 3, full of fun and great learning.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES
2022 is a Board Of Trustees election year.
If being a member of the Board and being a Parent Representative is something you think you might be interested in or you’d like more information about, we’d love to catch up.
We are looking forward to holding four Community Catch Ups in the first week of Term 3 and hope to have the chance to meet as many of you as possible.
Tuesday 26 July @ 8am
Tuesday 26 July @ 7pm
Thursday 28 July @ 7pm
Friday 29 July @ 8am
These sessions will be held in the staff room and are an opportunity to meet current Board Of Trustee members and ask any questions about the process and opportunity that is ahead.
This year the election date has been set for 20 September 2022.
Please let the admin staff know if you’re hoping to get along, so that we can make sure we have enough croissants…or wine for the evening sessions!
Should you have any further questions please contact Amy Smith, our Board Chair directly on 021 764 747.

MY IRISH FLAG
I knitted an Irish flag at Knitting Club. I brought it to the rugby game Ireland Vs All Blacks. Ireland sadly lost, but it was a really good game! I had lots of fun. Lots of people around me were asking me where I had made my flag. There were lots of Irish fans!

THE EMPEROR'S CLOTHES
On Friday 1 July the NZ Playhouse Theatre Group performed a play at our school. It was called ‘The Emperor's Clothes.’ It was about the King needing a unique fashion designer. Some people wanted to become rich quickly so they signed up for the job. The people who wanted to get rich fast were scammers, they made up this type of fabric which was called Invisible Fabric and only people who were smart could “see” it. The lower hubs went first, then the top hubs went before home time.It was so much fun! It was very hilarious. We really hope to see them again! We were very grateful that we had the chance to view these wonderful actors.

MARIST MEALS
This year we are continuing with Marist Meals - a pastoral care initiative. These meals are provided to families in the school & parish community when a little extra support is needed (e.g. a new baby, sickness, bereavement). With the impact of covid and many of our school and parish families isolating or unwell, it would be great if we could fill up the freezer so we can help lighten the load for families during these challenging times.
If you would like to contribute, we welcome any homemade, brought meals or baking for our freezer. Meals can be dropped off to the school office.
Containers available at the school office.
ST MARYS FOODBANK NEED YOUR HELP
St Mary's Parish Foodbank is feeding nearly 2000 a month. PLEASE remember them when you are shopping - they are in desperate need of donations! Anything you can contribute will be very much appreciated.
There is a box on the front porch of the presbytery.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support!

This Year's Topic: A Great Day Out!
Tell us about a great day out with family or friends. Maybe it’s a summer trip to the beach, a winter trip to the snow, a walk in the bush or up a maunga, a big celebration at a grandparents’ house or movies at the mall. Whether it's fishing, biking, exploring a river or visiting the T-Rex at Auckland Museum, we want to hear about it.
