12/13 – College March was amazing!
So proud of you, BCS Class of 2020!
Everyone came out for the pep rally!
On 12/13, the 610 Henry Community turned out to cheer on our seniors, lining the perimeter of our building, waving posters and pom-poms, congratulating our seniors for having applied to college! Our underclassmen and our Cheer Team honored our seniors at this morning's pep rally and waved posters celebrating the seniors' success. Guest speakers, including Jose Rivera (BCS Restorative Practices Coordinator), Zac Martin (Exec Director of Trellis: Connecting Communities for Good), Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon, Elizabeth Kennedy (from Public Advocate Jumaane Williams' Office) and our six crew speakers (Gabriel MR, Jennifer A, Michael MV, Jaselle K, Nyla G, Nayeli C) offered advice and appreciations to the Class of 2020! We were also joined by staff and students from two NYC Outward Bound middle schools (MS 839 and Launch Middle School).
Walk of Fame!
Check out our underclassmen cheering on our seniors!
VIP Escort through Carroll Gardens and Red Hook!
After marching around the school's perimeter, seniors then marched through Carroll Gardens (applauded by local residents and business owners). Our seniors marched with a VIP escort by the 76th Pct - stopping traffic for our seniors as we made our way through the community!
Signed, sealed, delivered with love and pride!
Seniors slowly made their way to the Red Hook Post Office. Seniors mailed a letter symbolizing their college bound journey (including scholarship/college applications, thank you notes, financial aid information, etc.), all stamped with a special 2020 College March seal specially developed by the US Postal Service. There was a lot of fanfare at the Post Office! We had additional speeches from Capital One Regional Executive Kostas Koutsagelos and Melissa de Valle Ortiz (from Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez's Office)!
Party!!
Students then marched back through the community to the gym where we had an afternoon of food and dancing to honor the Class of 2020! The walls were lined with the posters that our underclassmen had made for seniors! What a celebration for our entire Brooklyn Collaborative community!
